    Abstract: 1286429 Electrophotographic element INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 19 April 1971 [30 April 1970] 26086/71 Heading HlK An electrophotographic element comprises a conductive substrate having thereon a barrier layer of non-conductive material, a chargegenerating layer at least 0À15Á thick overlying the barrier layer and containing one or more inorganic photoconductive materials and an organic surface layer containing at least 20 wt. per cent of 2,4,7-trinitrofiuorenone. The substrate may be a plate of aluminium or brass or nylon or polyethylene terephthalate coated with Al. The barrier layer may be provided by oxidizing the plate, e.g. anodically or by vapour phase reaction of a halide of Si, Al or Ti. The charge-generating layer may be one or two layers of CdS or CdSSe whilst the surface layer is a mixture of the fluorenone, a polyester or polyketone, cryptocyanine and optionally thiourea or thioacetamide.
