Abstract: Each cascaded amplifier stage comprises two input transistors (118, 120) and two control transistors (110, 112) respectively supplied with bias voltage V and bias current I. The differential current flowing through transistors (118, 120) is amplified by each stage. By connecting diode loads, (D1 D2); (D3, D4) and (D5, D6) in the connections between the emitters of transistors (118 min , 120 min ) and the base collector connections of transistors (110 min /112 min ) and (120 min /110) etc., the amplification in each stage is increased so that the differential current is amplified at a higher rate than the proportion of I2:I1; I3:I2 etc.

Abstract: 1,006,314. Semi-conductor pulse circuits. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. May 8, 1964 [May 13, 1963], No. 19348/64. Heading H3T. A voltage threshold circuit comprises a Zener diode 11 having a zero temperature coefficient at a certain reverse current value connected in series opposition to a tunnel diode 10 having a peak current at said value. It is explained that at a current value in the " constant voltage " region of a Zener diode the current through it for a given voltage across it does not vary with temperature and as the voltage of the peak point of the tunnel diode does not vary appreciably with temperature, the threshold at which the series circuit switches to a high voltage state is not temperature sensitive. The series arrangement of 10 and 11 receives a current from transistor 40 below the peak value so that the tunnel diode 10 is in its low voltage state. If a negative pulse is applied at 45 the current through transistor 40 starts to rise at a rate determined in part by a capacitor 51. When the current reaches the peak value of the tunnel diode the voltage across it switches to a higher value producing an output pulse at 56. At the end of the input pulse the output reverts to its original value after a short delay.
