Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method, a system and a product, for changing the input/output (I/O) activity of a host and allowing a storage drive to which the I/O activity is directed to access requested information. SOLUTION: The method, the system and the product, for dealing with communication between the host and a storage device having a storage medium are provided. An input/output (I/O) request which requires the transmission of information requested for use to a storage drive and is directed to the storage medium is received from a host and the I/O request to the storage medium is executed. In response to deciding that the request information is required, a message is transmitted to the host and the host is made to change I/O time-out operation. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method, system and name of manufacture for assigning an alias address to a base address. SOLUTION: An assignment is provided of base addresses to devices, wherein the base addresses are used to access the devices assigned to the base addresses. An assignment of a plurality of alias addresses to an alias address pool is provided. The alias addresses in the alias address pool are capable of being dynamically assigned to the devices to service I/O requests to the devices. An input/output (I/O) request to access one target device constituting one of the devices is processed. A determination is made as to whether the base address assigned to the target device is available. One alias address is assigned to the target device in response to determining that the base address is not available. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method, system and program for verifying a record as part of an operation to modify the record. SOLUTION: A search request is received to determine whether a record matches a value. A first component executes the search request to determine whether the record matches the value. The first component sends a verify request to a second component that has not executed the search request to execute the search request to determine whether the record matches the value. A result of the first and second components executing the search request is logged. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device, a system and a method for switching volume address association in point-in-time copy relationship. SOLUTION: A migration module 320 copies data from a source volume 205 to a target volume 210. A detection module 310 detects data corruption of the source volume 205. A switching module 315 switches a logical volume address from a source volume address of the source volume 205 to a target volume address of the target volume 210 in response to detecting the data corruption to redirect reading/writing of the data to the target volume 210. In one embodiment, a tracking module 325 tracks the current target volume copy of source volume data to redirect access for the source volume data without the current target volume copy to the source volume. Abstract:
Provided are a method, system, and article of manufacture for providing an address format compatible with different addressing formats used for addressing different sized address spaces. An address format is used in an operating system to address storage space in a storage device comprising a first region and a second region of storage space. A first group of applicat ions uses the address format to only address the storage space in the first region and is not coded to use the address format to access the second region and a second group of applications uses the address format to address the storage space in the first and second regions.
