Abstract: The invention provides polypeptides comprising less than 50 contiguous naturally occurring VLPT Ehrlichia chaffeensis amino acids. The invention further provides methods which utilize the polypeptides to detect antibodies that specifically bind an Ehrlichia chaffeensis polypeptide in a test sample. Also provided are methods of detecting an Ehrlichia chaffeensis polypeptide in a sample.
