Abstract: The transponder (10) has a determination circuit (18) constructed to determine a parameter (19), which is derived from field strength of an electromagnetic field (14), where the field strength prevails at a place of the transponder. A comparator (20) compares the determined parameter with a threshold value. A deactivator (22) deactivates data communication functionality and CPU-functionality of the transponder when derived parameter falls below the threshold value. A measuring circuit determines current, which is not loaded by a clocked load circuit (16). Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for operating a transponder (2) a computer program for executing a method for operating a transponder.
