Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimize reception of a signal at a rake receiver by updating an estimation value of a traffic channel amplitude on the basis of comparison between a traffic channel amplitude estimation value and a pilot symbol from a single base station. SOLUTION: Two signals separated from a disturbance signal, that is, xt(n) of a traffic signal, xp(n) of a pilot signal and a signal from another base station through coordination are received from a single base station. The signal x, is supplied to a multiplier 50. Moreover, a conjugate of the signal xt is supplied to a multiplier 52. Then, a CDMA cellular signal is weighted by an estimation value, the weighted signal is synthesized with the CDMA cellular which is formed by another channel of the rake receiver and is separately weighted, and an estimation value of a traffic channel amplitude is updated on the basis of comparison between the traffic channel amplitude estimation value and a pilot symbol from the single base station.

Abstract: In a CDMA cellular system, a method for estimating the amplitude of a traffic channel based on a pilot signal received from two or more basestations. Each channel in a RAKE receiver is provided with a data signal received on a traffic channel and a pilot signal received on a pilot channel. A comparison is made between the product of the pilot signal and the data signal versus the product of the pilot signal and an estimate of the traffic channel amplitude. The estimate of the traffic channel amplitude drives a feedback loop to refine the comparison and the data signal is weighted by the traffic channel amplitude estimate and combined with weighted data signals in the other channels of the RAKE receiver.

Abstract: The method involves receiving a cellular CDMA signal and a pilot signal form two or more base stations, and separating the cellular CDMA signal and a pilot signal from one single base station. An estimation of the traffic channel amplitude is made. The cellular CDMA signal is weighted based on the estimation and the weighted signal is combined with other weighted cellular CDMA signals produced in other channels of the RAKE receiver. The estimation of amplitude is updated based on a comparison with the pilot signal of the single base station. Independent claims are included for a method of combining signals in a RAKE receiver, and a method of detecting cellular CDMA signals.

The estimate of the traffic channel amplitude is updated, preferably through a feedback loop to refine the comparison and the data signal is weighted by the traffic channel amplitude estimate and combined with weighted data signals in the other channels of the RAKE receiver. The estimate of the traffic channel amplitude may be determined by creating an error signal that is proportional to the difference between the product of a previous estimate versus the pilot signal and the product of the pilot signal and the CDMA cellular signals.
