Abstract:
Prior to being admitted into the network, a base station establishes a set of operating parameters. Next, a search is performed to determine the presence and configuration of neighboring base stations and current network conditions. Based on the search results, an improved operating configuration is determined for the base station and the base station's operating parameters are adjusted. Once the base station is admitted to and is operating in the network, the base station continues to monitor neighboring base stations and network conditions and adjusts its operating parameters accordingly.
Abstract:
A method and system for uplink (UL) synchronization of an uplink transmission from a plurality of wireless transmit/receive units (WTRUs) to a Node-B in a code division multiple access (CDMA) system. A Node-B receives a transmission including a UL synchronization (SYNC_UL) sequence from a WTRU. A sampler samples the transmission at a sampling rate which is higher than a chip rate. The samples are down-sampled and the SYNC_UL sequence is detected at a lower rate. A first significant path location of the detected SYNC_UL sequence is determined, and based on the first significant path location, a final significant path location is determined. The final significant path location is quantized and UpPCHPOS is transmitted to the WTRU to adjust a UL transmission timing.
Abstract:
A method for performing outer loop power control in a wireless communication system utilizing a plurality of transport channels begins by selecting an initial reference transport channel (TrCH) and a final reference TrCH. Outer loop power control is performed using the initial reference TrCH and then outer loop power control is performed using the final reference TrCH.
Abstract:
Apparatus and methods for wireless communication transmission power control are provided. Determination of gain factors and adjustments for physical channel reconfiguration in the context of transmission power control are addressed. Preferably, implementation is in con unction with communication systems in which wireless communications are conducted between wireless transmit receive units (WTRUs) using multiple channels that are concurrently transmitted.
Abstract:
In a wireless communication system using a reference channel used for error rate measurement and associated with a plurality of transport channels multiplexed on a coded composite transport channel (CCTrCH), a method is employed for reselection of the reference channel from favorable candidate transport channels. A channel is initially selected from the plurality of multiplexed channels as the reference channel. Channels are monitored (503) based on quantitative data content criteria to determine whether an ON or OFF state exists. A different channel is selected from the plurality of multiplexed channels as the reselected RTrCH when a better candidate transport channel in the ON state becomes available, or when the monitored RTrCH reflects an OFF state.
Abstract:
Wireless communication method and apparatus for selecting a channel type for a call are disclosed. In a wireless communication system that supports both a basic low speed channel and a special high speed channel, when a call is received from a user, it is determined whether the high speed channel is suitable for the call and preferable for the user. If so, it is determined whether the high speed channel is available. If so, the call is admitted and assigned to the high speed channel. If these criteria are not met, the call is admitted and assigned a low speed channel if an available low speed channel can support the call; otherwise the call request is rejected. After admitting the call, it is continuously determined whether the high speed channel or the low speed channel is best, and the channel type is switched accordingly.
Abstract:
A method system and components for outer loop power control which compensates for changing channel conditions. A target metric, preferably target signal-to-interference ratio (SIR), is adjusted with differing step up and step down levels to converge on a relatively low steady state level of step up and step down target metric adjustments. The initial target SIR remains fixed during an inner loop settling state, followed by incremental target SIR adjustments during a transient state, and smaller incremental target SIR adjustments in a steady state. Step sizes of the adjustments are preferably based on the target block error rate (BLER) and the number of errors detected within predetermined time intervals.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a detector that detects a transmitted digital signature using the energy output from a matched filter. The energies are tabulated according to an anticipated signature pattern for variable transmission distances. The tabulation accounts for expected round trip transmission delays and allows processing of the accumulated symbols to derive a correct signature whether coherent or non-coherent signature coding is used and multiple Doppler channels are present.
