Abstract: A subscriber unit for wireless communication with a base station in a wireless subscriber communication system includes a FIR chip, a DIF (digital intermediate frequency) chip, a single processor chip and a radio. The processor chip transcodes a digital voice input signal to provide digital input symbols; demodulates an output signal received from the base station to provide digital output symbols; and synthesizes a digital voice output signal from the digital output symbols. The FIR chip FIR filters the digital input symbols and generates timing signals for timing the transcoding and synthesizing operations in the processor chip. The DIF chip digitally synthesizes a digital intermediate frequency signal by direct digital synthesis (DDS) and modulates the digital intermediate frequency signal with the filtered input symbols to provide a modulated intermediate frequency input signal. The radio further processes the modulated input signal for transmission to the base station.

Abstract: Base station in communication with telephone lines for the simultaneous wireless transmission of information signals to a number of subscriber stations between the base station and each of the number of subscriber stations. The base station comprises a first interface which is connected via trunk lines to the telephone lines; signal compression means which are connected to the aforementioned first interface by means of a number of trunk lines for the simultaneous compression of different digital signal patterns in order to provide different compressed signals and channel-control means which are connected to the signal compression means for the sequential combination of the compressed signals into a single transmission bit stream, each of the respective compressed signals occupying a respective sequential position in the transmission bit stream. Furthermore, transmission and reception means are provided in the base station to establish direct wireless communication between the base station and the number of subscriber stations.

Abstract: Subscriber unit for a wireless digital telephone communications system in which the subscriber unit comprises coding/decoding means and an associated processing unit for the re-coding of an input signal in order to produce digital input symbols, FIR (final impulse response) means which respond to the processing unit to provide FIR-filtered digital input symbols, a radio to transmit a signal, which comprises the information present in the FIR-filtered digital input symbols, to a second unit within the system and for demodulating an output signal received from the second unit, the processing unit composing digital output signals from the demodulated output signal, the FIR means being implemented as an FIR chip, which comprises: means for internal address decoding to enable the processing unit to gain access to internal functions of the FIR chip; control and status registers which enable the processing unit to read the status of the FIR chip and to control internal functions thereof; means for the filtering, with final impulse response, of the digital input symbols and means for controlling the timing which enables the processing unit to control the FIR filter means.
