Abstract: A method and apparatus for integrating a Voice over Internet Protocol (Vo IP) client in a wireless PC card are disclosed. A soft mobile phone client i s combined with a cellular PC card to create a single physical device that i s capable of providing VoIP services to a computer user through the cellular capabilities of the device itself, or alternatively, through any other Inte rnet connectivity available to the computer. When a user inserts the VoIP cl ient/ Cellular PC Card into a computer, a graphical user interface (GUI) wit hin the connection manager software is launched allowing the user to communi cate VoIP function commands to the VoIP client. A check for Internet connect ivity may be performed, at which time the Radio portion of the enhanced PC c ard may be put into an idle state if connectivity is detected, or may altern atively establish Internet connectivity through the cellular portion of the enhanced PC card. Abstract: Se describen un método y aparato para integrar un cliente de Voz sobre Protocolo de Internet (VoIP) en una tarjeta de PC inalámbrica. Un cliente de telefonía móvil flexible se combina con una tarjeta de PC celular para crear un dispositivo físico único que sea capaz de proporcionar servicios de VoIP a un usuario de computadora a través de capacidades celulares del dispositivo por sí mismo, o alternativamente, a través de cualquier otra conectividad de Internet disponible para la computadora. Cuando un usuario inserta la Tarjeta de PC celular/cliente de V0IP en una computadora, se emprende una interfaz de usuario gráfico (GUI) dentro del software administrador de conexión permitiendo al usuario comunicar los comandos de función de VoIP al cliente de VoIP. Podrá realizarse una verificación de conectividad de Internet, en cuyo momento la parte de Radio de la tarjeta de PC mejorada podrá colocarse en un estado inactivo si se detecta la conectividad, o podrá establecer alternativamente la conectividad de Internet a través de la parte celular de la tarjeta de PC mejorada. Abstract: An apparatus is configured to communicate with a computer through a communications interface. The apparatus includes a soft mobile phone client and a cellular modem. The soft mobile client provides a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) communication session, and includes a first set of a plurality of communications modules which does not include a non-access stratum (NAS) module. The cellular modem provides cellular Internet Protocol (IP) connectivity to the computer, and includes a second set of a plurality of modules having a NAS module. The soft mobile phone client establishes IP connectivity through the cellular modem and provides IP connectivity to the computer on a condition that a pre-existing IP connection via the computer is not available. The soft mobile phone client includes a software module encoded to implement a graphical user interface (GUI) function, which enables a VoIP communication session to be initiated by the user.
