Abstract:
The present invention is related to a method and apparatus for reducing antenna correlation between multiple antennas. A transmitter generates at least two beams with a plurality of antennas. The generated beams are spatially separated to point away each other. Therefore, the transmitted signals travel through different channel conditions and arrive at a receiver mutually uncorrelated. The beams may be generated by antennas having different antenna pattern, or by an array antenna. The beams may be polarized differently. The schemes may be implemented on a subcarrier basis in an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system. Trellis coded mapping may be utilized for adjacent symbols to be mapped to antennas with low correlation.
Abstract:
A channel estimation apparatus and method is provided for a wireless communication signal received from at least one relatively mobile wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU). Predetermined filter coefficients having unique index values are stored in a memory device. An index generator matches estimation values of the mobile unit speed and SNR to a particular filter coefficient, and selects a corresponding index value, whereby the memory performs a look up function according to the index value and outputs a filter coefficient vector. The channel estimation of the wireless communication signal is taken from the output of the filter. Alternatively, a set of parallel filters which run continuously are used to produce several channel estimates, from which the final estimate is selected based on the associated lowest mean square error or highest SNR.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for providing fast detection of a high speed shared control channel (HS-SCCH). The HS-SCCH carries information necessary for receiving data via a high speed downlink shared channel (HS-DSCH). The apparatus receives messages transmitted via a plurality of HS-SCCHs. The apparatus measures a channel quality for the messages received via each HS-SCCH. The apparatus performs a threshold test by comparing the channel quality with a predetermined threshold. The apparatus then selects a HS-SCCH having the best channel quality among the HS-SCCHs.
Abstract:
A method for multicasting a packet begins by providing a buffer for each of two user equipments (UEs) in communication with a base station. A determination is made whether there is a previously unsent packet at the base station. A second determination is made whether both UE buffers are non-empty. A non-empty buffer is flushed if there is no previously unsent packet and if one of the buffers is non-empty. A packet is selected to be transmitted if there is a previously unsent packet or if both buffers are non-empty. The buffers are updated based on feedback received from the UEs.
Abstract:
In a wireless communication system, a method and apparatus switches operating modes of a receiver receiving data and operating in a first mode. The method comprises determining whether a criteria is met to switch the operating mode of the receiver. The operating mode of the receiver is switched from the first mode to a second mode if the criteria is met.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for estimating and correcting baseband frequency error in a receiver. In one embodiment, an equalizer performs equalization on a sample data stream and generates filter tap values based on the equalization. An estimated frequency error signal is generated based on at least one of the filter tap values. A rotating phasor is generated based on the estimated frequency error signal. The rotating phasor signal is multiplied with the sample data stream to correct the frequency of the sample data stream. In another embodiment, a channel estimator performs channel estimation and generates Rake receiver finger weights based on at least one of the finger weights. An estimated frequency error signal is generated based on at least one of the finger weights.
Abstract:
A method for embedding location information in a content object created on a content creation device begins by obtaining location information relating to the current location of the content creation device. The content object is created and the location information is embedded into the content object. A method for displaying location information in connection with a content object begins by selecting a content object to view. The embedded location information is extracted from the selected content object. The location information is interpreted to determine user-friendly location information. The user-friendly location information is displayed with the selected content object.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for radio resources control in a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) communication system are disclosed. Channel metric is calculated for each of a plurality of transmit antennas. Sub-carriers are allocated to each transmit antenna in accordance with the channel metric of each transmit antenna. Signals are transmitted using the allocated sub-carriers at each antenna. Adaptive modulation and coding and transmit power control of each sub-carrier may be further implemented in accordance with the channel metric. Power control may be implemented per antenna basis or per sub-carrier basis. In performing power control, a subset of transmit antennas may be selected and waterpouring may be applied only to the selected antennas. Waterpouring may be based on SNR instead of channel response.

Abstract:
A method and apparatus generating an error signal and an update vector signal used to generate filter tap coefficients for an equalizer filter residing in an equalizer. The equalizer filter outputs an equalized signal in response to receiving a sample data stream. The error signal is generated by down-sampling the equalized signal, subtracting the equalized signal from a reference signal, and filtering and down-sampling the resulting signal. Simultaneously, the update vector signal is generated by converting scalar samples of the sample data stream to a data vector signal and descrambling, filtering, and down-sampling the data vector signal. A tap coefficients generator is used to generate the filter tap coefficients for updating the equalizer filter based on the error signal and the update vector signal.
