Abstract:
A proces for preparing a water-insoluble or water-soluble PVP-iodine product which comprises intimately mixing water-insoluble PVP or water-soluble PVP having a K-value of 10-20, about 10 to 20 % by weight of iodine powder and about 0.05 to 1 % by weight of isopropanol, heating the reaction mixture at a mixing temperature of room temperature to about 30-60 DEG C for about 0.5 to 6 hours, and heating the mixture at a reaction temperature of about 65 to 98 DEG C for about 10-24 hours, generally at least 18 hours, to form a stable, uniform, free-flowing powder.
Abstract:
A toothpaste composition includes the strontium salt of maleic anhydride-methyl vinyl ether copolymer, which is capable of desensitizing the nerve endings of a tooth in saliva or water.
Abstract:
The present invention is a directed to a composition and method of solubilizing and stabilizing a liquid preservative composition containing an alkyl paraben ingredient which comprises including polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) in said composition. The compositions are particularly useful in personal care products.
Abstract:
What is described herein are antimicrobial compositions which are defined blends of a l,2-diol and pbenoxyethanol which show broad activity against bacteria, fungi and mold spores. This activity is potentiated by the addition thereto of small amounts of a co-biocide for which the blend acts as a delivery system for the otherwise water-insoluble co-biocide.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a broad spectrum antimicrobial composition, effective against gram negative and gram positive bacteria and fungi, which comprises a synergistic composition comprising iodopropynyl butyl carbamate and a bicyclic hydroxymethyl oxazolidine containing less than 0.1% of free formaldehyde.
Abstract:
What is provided herein is a stabilized, aqueous, film-forming, antimicrobial composition of hydrogen peroxide. The active, oxygen-generating hydrogen peroxide component in the composition is stabilized in an aqueous-polyol solvent system of predetermined polarity containing PVP. In contrast, similar formulations without PVP experienced a loss of peroxide activity upon standing. Suitably, the composition herein includes about 1-20 % by weight hydrogen peroxide, about 0.1-50 % by weight PVP, and about 0.1-80 % by weight of a polyol, the rest being water. Preferably, about 5-20 % by weight of water is present in the composition. Additional solvents may be included therein, such as alcohols, ether oxides, esters, triglycerides of fatty acids, hydrocarbons, N-vinyl lactams, silicone oils, and polyether oligomers.
Abstract:
An antimicrobial composition of 3-iodo-2-propynylbutyl carbamate (IPBC) and 1,3-butylene glycol (BG) as solvent, in a defined weight ratio, preferably 9-11% IPBC and 89-91% BG, and personal care formulations including the composition in an amount of about 0.1-0.2% therein, at a pH of 4-9, is described.
Abstract:
Urea-hydrogen peroxide-polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) in the form of a free-flowing powder is stable against decomposition in water and alcohol solvents. The product is obtained by spraying an aqueous solution of urea-hydrogen peroxide onto a fluidized bed of PVP at a rate of about 0.5-30 g of solution/minute/kg PVP in the bed, preferably, about 1-3 g/min/kg PVP, and drying. The product contains about 5-20 % by weight H2O2 and less than about 5 % water.
Abstract:
Abstract:
What is described herein are antimicrobial compositions which are defined blends of a 1,2-diol and phenoxyethanol which show broad activity against bacteria, fungi and mold spores. This activity is potentiated by the addition thereto of small amounts of a co-biocide for which the blend acts as a delivery system for the otherwise water-insoluble co-biocide.
