Abstract: This invention relates to a fast drying iodine complex solution having film forming capability and skin substantivity which solution consists essentially of: (a) between 1 and 25 wt.% polyvinylpyrrolidone/iodine (PVP/I) complex; (b) between 5 and 15 wt.% vinylpyrrolidone/vinyl acetate copolymer (PVP/VA); (c) between 0.5 and 1.5 wt.% non-plasticizing polyethylene glycol (PEG); (d) between 35 and 75 wt.% C1 to C4 alkanol; (e) between 12 and 35 wt.% deionized water; and (f) between 0 and 2.5 wt.% of 1-vinyl-3-(E)-ethylidene pyrrolidone, based on total composition. The invention also relates to the method of preparing the film forming solution which has a drying time of less than 5 minutes.

Abstract: A process for making a free-flowing, compressible powder by spraying a selected amount of an aqueous solution of polyvinylpyrrolidone onto a fluid bed containing a predetermined admixture of starch and polyvinylpyrrolidone therein, and drying. An active-containing tablet then is provided by adding an active material, optionally with a lubricant, to such powder, and compressing the admixture into a commercially acceptable tablet.

Abstract: A non-aqueous, heterogeneous polymerization process comprises heating a reaction mixture of about 5-70 %, preferably 10-30 %, by weight, of a vinyl monomer in an oil as solvent, and a free radical initiator, optionally in the presence of a crosslinking agent and/or a surfactant, wherein the oil solvent is present in an amount sufficient to keep the resultant polymer in a stirrable state throughout the polymerization. The polymer reaction product is capable of forming a uniform emulsion or gel upon addition of water thereto.
