    Abstract: A computing apparatus, including: a hardware platform; and a virtual switch (vSwitch) to operate on the hardware platform, the vSwitch including a virtual ingress interface, an inline virtual egress interface to communicatively couple to an inline data path, a diverted virtual egress interface to communicatively couple to a diverted data path, a diversion logic block, and logic to: communicatively couple to a local virtual machine (VM) via the diverted data path, the VM to provide an edge computing function; communicatively couple to a downstream data center via the inline data path; receive an incoming packet via the virtual ingress interface; determine that the incoming packet belongs to a class of packets for diversion processing; provide the incoming packet to the diversion logic block, wherein the diversion logic block is to determine that the packet is an edge computing flow to be diverted to the edge computing function via the diverted data path; and direct the incoming packet to the local VM via the diverted virtual egress interface.

    Abstract: This disclosure is directed to system to monitor and control data flow in a network. At least one device in a core network may be responsible for charging functions related to the data requests. During certain high usage scenarios (e.g., emergencies, special events, etc.), it may be possible for the charging system to be overwhelmed. For example, a policing system may be implemented in the core network to at least manage the flow of requests to the charging system. The policing system may monitor and control request flow to the charging system based on at least one policy. When a request is determined to violate a policy, the policing system may take corrective action to prevent the charging system from being overwhelmed. For example, the policing system may block the request, divert the request to another charging system that may have available capacity, etc.

    Abstract: Aspects of data re-direction are described, which can include software-defined networking (SDN) data re-direction operations. Some aspects include data re-direction operations performed by one or more virtualized network functions. In some aspects, a network router decodes an indication of a handover of a user equipment (UE) from a first end point (EP) to a second EP, based on the indication, the router can update a relocation table including the UE identifier, an identifier of the first EP, and an identifier of the second EP. The router can receive a data packet for the UE, configured for transmission to the first EP, and modify the data packet, based on the relocation table, for rerouting to the second EP. In some aspects, the router can decode handover prediction information, including an indication of a predicted future geographic location of the UE, and update the relocation table based on the handover prediction information.

    Abstract: The present disclosure is related to power control mechanisms for workload processing systems, and in particular, multi-scale power control technologies that can be used to reduce the overhead of workload processing systems. The disclosed power control mechanisms operate on multiple timescales including a slow timescale and a fast timescale. Separate control loops (or governors) are used for the slow and fast timescales where each control loop includes its own trigger mechanisms and configurable operational policies. The operational policies for slow timescale control loop can be trained separately using various machine learning techniques while the operational policies for the fast timescale control loop can be simple and reactive heuristics.

    Abstract: A network interface device, including: an ingress interface; a host platform interface to communicatively couple to a host platform; and a packet preprocessor including logic to: receive via the ingress interface a data sequence including a plurality of discrete data units; identify the data sequence as data for a parallel processing operation; reorder the discrete data units into a reordered data frame, the reordered data frame configured to order the discrete data units for consumption by the parallel operation; and send the reordered data to the host platform via the host platform interface.
