The mass ratio (B/A) between the contents of the component (A) and the component (B) is 2-50.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the surface resistance of a recording layer sufficiently low and to improve electromagnetic conversion characteristics and traveling durability by incorporating inorg. powder at a specific ratio in association with a binder resin into a lower layer side magnetic layer and incorporating carbon black of a specific grain size at a specific ratio in association with magnetic powder therein. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium 1 consists of a nonmagnetic base 2, the first magnetic layer 3 and second magnetic layer 4 disposed on a front surface side and the back coating layer 5 disposed on a rear surface of the nonmagnetic base. The first magnetic layer 3 contains ferromagnetic powder and the binder resin. The first magnetic layer contains the carbon black having the average primary grain size of 8 to 80 nm at 10 to 90 pts.wt. per 100 pts.wt. ferromagnetic powder as a nonmagnetic inorg. power. The total sum of the contents of the nonmagnetic inorg. powder and the ferromagnetic powder is so determined as to be 4 to 70 weigh times of the weight of the binder resin contained in the first magnetic layer.
