Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a detergent composition having extremely strong cleaning power over mud stain, by including a protopectinase having the optimum reaction pH in an alkali range when protopectin or a polygalacturonic acid is used as a substrate. SOLUTION: This composition contains a protopectinase having the optimum reaction pH of >=7 in using protopectin or a polygalacturonic acid as a substrate. An enzyme having the optimum reaction pH of >=8 and cotton pectin liberation force at pH 8 (the amount of pectin mg liberated from 1 g of cotton yarn when 20 mg/ml of cotton yarn is treated with 0.4 mg/ml of the enzyme at 30 deg.C for one hour) of >=0.2 mg/g cotton is preferable as the protopectinase. Especially pectate lyase which is produced by Bacillus sp. KSM-P15 strain and has protopectinase activity is preferable as the enzyme. The enzyme is added to the composition so that the amount of the enzyme is 0.05-50 mg/L in a washing solution calculated as an enzyme preparation so as to give >=0.2 mg/g cotton of cotton pectin liberation force.
