Abstract:
Aluminum compounds represented by formula (1): Al(R1-SO3)l(R2)m(R3)n (wherein R1 represents an optionally substituted hydrocarbon group; R2 represents an optionally substituted hydrocarbon group, an optionally substituted aliphatic hydrocarbonoxy group, or halogeno; R3 represents an optionally substituted aromatic hydrocarbonoxy group; and l, m, and n each is a number of 0 to 3, provided that (l+m+n)=3 and l is not 0); an acid catalyst containing the same; and a process for producing an ester, acetal, ketal, ether, or alkyl glycoside by using the catalyst. The catalyst is suitable for use in a variety of reactions such as acid-catalyzed reactions of alcohols, i.e., reactions with carbonyl compounds, e.g., esterification, transesterification, acetalization and ketalization, etherification, and ring-opening reactions of epoxy compounds. It is not deactivated by alcoholysis and has a sufficient activity, and the reactions catalyzed by it can be easily controlled and are reduced in side reactions. Consequently, using the catalyst enables an objective substance to be produced in a high yield from starting materials used in an almost equimolar proportion.
Abstract:
An organo(poly)siloxane modified with a phosphoric ester (including alkali metal salts thereof) and suitable as an ingredient of cosmetics; and a process for producing the same which comprises reacting an organo(poly)siloxane having a group of the formula HO-R4O)q-R5-(OR6)r- (wherein R4 to R6 represent each alkylene) in its molecule with phosphorous oxyhalide and then with an alkali solution. The modified organo(poly)siloxane can stably emulsify silicone oil generally used as the material of cosmetics irrespective of temperature and is excellent in compatibility with polar ingredients and in foaming power. Therefore it is suitable as an ingredient of, for example, skin care product, skin cleaning agent, hair care product and hair cleaning agent.
Abstract:
Ether compounds, which are useful as solvents, cosmetics, detergents, lubricants, emulsifiers and so on, are produced by reacting (a) a hydroxy compound with a carbonyl compound or (b) a carbonyl compound under hydrogen atmosphere in the presence of a catalyst with ease and at a low cost. The reaction is carried out while removing out produced water by using a dehydrating agent during the reaction; by distilling off the water by azeotropic dehydration and the like; or by blowing gases such as hydrogen gas to flow through the reaction system.
