    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a film-forming cosmetic, especially film-forming pack, resistant to hydrolysis with time, and having substituted storage stability, by using a copolymer of vinyl alcohol and an alkyl vinyl ether as a component. CONSTITUTION:The objective cosmetic contains the copolymer (especially having an average molecular weight of 30,000-200,000) composed of 98-80mol% (especially 95-85mol%) vinyl alcohol monomer and 2-20mol% (especially 5- 15mol%) 1-6C straight or branched chain alkyl vinyl ether monomer unit, as a main component. The content of the copolymer is preferably 1-40wt%. The cosmetic is a homogeneous paste or liquid having low viscosity, and accordingly, is can be spread easily and uniformly on the skin, and dried in a short time. USE:Film-forming agent for nail enamel, eyeliner, mascara, hair-dressing, etc., and thickener, emulsifier, binder, etc. for various cosmetics such as milky lotion, foundation, cream, face powder, shampoo, etc.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:A cellulose ether is made to react with a glycidyl trialkyl ammonium halide in an aqueous medium in the presence of a catalyst such as barium hydroxide to increase the effective reaction rate, thus producing the titled compound used as flocculating agent. CONSTITUTION:(A) a cellulose ether such as hydroxyethylcellulose is made to react with (B) a glycidyl trialkylammonium halide such as glydicyl trimethylammonium chloride in a mixed solvent composed of water and a water-soluble organic solvent in the presence of (C) a catalyst of barium hydroxide alone or a combination thereof with another base such as lithium hydroxide to produce the objective cationic compound. USE:Beside flocculating agent, the titled compound is used as pigment holder, paper power strengthener, antistatic agent for fiber or ingredient for cosmetics and shampoo.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:The titled composition, prepared by copolymerizing specific amounts of vinyl monomers containing amino group and hydroxyl group respectively with acrylic ester, etc. of a 1-3C and a 4-18C aliphatic alcohol respectively in a hydrophilic solvent, and neutralizing the resultant polymer, and having improved hairdressing effect. CONSTITUTION:(A) 15-55wt% vinyl monomer containing amino group expressed by the formula (X is O or NH; R1 is H or CH3; R2 is 1-4C alkylene; R3 and R4 are 1-18C alkyl), e.g. diethylaminoethyl methacrylate, is copolymerized with (B) 10-60wt% acrylic or methacrylic ester of a 1-3C aliphatic alcohol, (C) 5-50wt% acrylic or methacrylic ester of a 4-18C aliphatic alcohol and (D) 5-40wt% vinyl monomer containing a hydroxy group in a hydrophilic solvent, and the resultant copolymer is then neutralized with a water-soluble acidic substance to give a composition having curl retaining power even at high temperature and humidity for a long time, good finishing feeling, and particularly suitable for an aerosol hairdressing.
