Abstract: A novel acidic heteropolysaccharide which comprises as its structural units arabinose, mannose, galactose, glucuronic acid, and xylose, at a specific ratio. The polysaccharide can be prepared by culturing a callus induced from a plant belonging to the genus Polianthes L. in a culture medium containing plant hormones. The polysaccharide can be used as a compoinent of agents for external application and detergents, and provides good moisturizing effects and a smooth, satisfying feeling upon use. When formulated in detergents, they produce remarkable improvement in a clean, rich feeling upon use.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a cleanser composition having excellent touch during or after used without damaging the cleansing function thereof, by compounding an acidic heteropolysaccharides originated from the genus Pollanthes L. and a surfactant. CONSTITUTION:Acidic heteropolysaccharides containing as the constituting components thereof arabinose, mannose, galactose, xylose and glucuronic acid and obtained by the tissue culture method of a plant belonging to the genus Pollanthes L. such as Pollanthes tuberosa L. and a surfactant are mixed with conventional other components to provide the objective composition. The composition can be prepared into shampoos, cleansing foams, body shampoos, solid soaps, etc. The acidic heteropolysaccharides are compounded in an amount of 0.001-10pts.wt. based on 100pts.wt. of the surfactant.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain external preparation composition having excellent effects for skin such as keeping wet, protect, softening and smoothing, containing acidic heteropolysaccharides obtained from a plant belonging to Polianthes L. CONSTITUTION:An external preparation composition is mixed with 0.00001-10wt.%, preferably 0.001-5wt.% acidic heteropolysaccharides containing arabinose, mannose, galactose, xylose and glucuronic acid obtained from a plant belonging to Polianthes L., especially Polianthes tuberosa L. The acidic heteropolysaccharides is obtained by following process; A part of a flower of Polianthes tuberosa L., etc., is used as an explant piece. Callus is derived using a medium comprising a fundamental medium, phytohormone and sugar as a carbon source. Then, the callus is transferred to a liquid medium and subjected to shake culture. Cells are removed from said cultured substance by centrifugation or filtration and condensed. Ethanol is added to the condensed liquid and a precipitate occurs. The precipitate is freeze-dried to afford the aimed composition.
