    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a composition of a cosmetic, an external medicine, etc., composed of a specific glycoprotein and excellent in skin protecting effect, humectant effect, highly smoothening effect, etc. CONSTITUTION:This composition is composed of preferably 0.0001-10wt.% (especially 0.02-2wt.%) of a glycoprotein which contains 5097% (preferably 70-97%) of a sugar containing arabinose, galactose, rhamnose and uronic acid as main constituting sugars, which is produced by preferably culturing cells of a plant (especially Psophocarpus tetragonolobus) which belongs to the family Fabaceae. The glycoprotein is obtained by preparing explant consisting of a part of an aseptic seedling of a plant which belongs to the family Fabaceae, inducing a callus from the explant by adding a plant hormone and a sugar, e.g. saccharose to the medium for plant culture, further subjecting the callus to shaking culture after transferred to a liquid medium, concentrating the cultured medium after the callus is removed, obtaining precipitate by adding ethanol to the concentrated liquid and finally lyophilizing the precipitate.
