External preparation compositions containing diamide derivatives represented by the general formula (1): wherein R1 represents optionally hydroxylated and/or alkoxylated linear or branched C¿1-22? hydrocarbyl; R?2¿ represents linear or branched divalent C¿1-12? hydrocarbyl; and R?3¿ represents linear or branched divalent C¿1-42? hydrocarbyl. These diamide derivatives (1) essentially improve the water retention function and barrier function of the horny layer, are excellent in blending properties and blending stability and can be produced efficiently and economically.

A flavanonol derivative represented by general formula (1) and a hair nourishment and growth stimulant composition containing the same (wherein R1 represents alkyl; and R?2 and R3¿ represent each hydrogen, optionally substituted alkyl, optionally substituted alkoxy, hydroxy, cyano or halogeno). The compound accelerates differentiation and proliferation of hair metrocytes, thus being excellent in hair nourishment and growth stimulant effects.
