Abstract: A method for producing a fatty acid ester through desulfurization of sulfur from a fatty acid ester using a catalyst, wherein the catalyst carries a catalyst metal on a support, (a) the catalyst contains as the catalyst metal one or more elements selected from the elements of group 9, group 10 and group 11 of the periodic table, (b) the total pore volume of the catalyst is 0.05 mL/g or more, and (c) the volume of pores with a pore size of 0.1 ?m or more and 500 ?m or less is 50% or more of the total pore volume of the catalyst. Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing basic copper carbonate having low bulk density and suitable for use as a catalyst precursor, and to provide a method for producing mono-unsaturated fatty acid of high quality.
SOLUTION: The method for producing basic copper carbonate comprises: a stage (1) where an aqueous solution of a copper salt is dropt to an aqueous solution of a carbonate so as to produce precipitates; a stage (2) where slurry comprising the precipitates obtained in the stage (1) is heated-up so as to be crystallized out into basic copper carbonate; a stage (3) where, after the completion of the stage (2), an aqueous solution of a copper salt is further dropt so as to be neutralized; a stage (4) where the slurry obtained in the stage (3) is subjected to aging; and a stage (5) where the precipitates aged in the stage (4) are separated, and drying is performed so as to obtain basic copper carbonate. Further, in the method for producing mono-unsaturated fatty acid, the basic copper carbonate obtained by this method is used as a catalyst precursor, and raw material fatty acid comprising poly-unsaturated fatty acid is hydrogenated.
