Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the work efficiency in an energy converter using hydrogen- gass-accumulating metal by bringing a plurality of rotational members in touch with heat medium and refrigerant alternately for producing hydrogen gas from one vessel and accumulating it in another. CONSTITUTION:When heat medium is circulated from an inlet 9 of an outer shell 8 to an outlet 9' for heating a reaction vessel 1 containing metal-hydrogen compound, accumulated hydrogen is taken out through a rotation support 2 and the hollow of a shaft 4 for operating a pump, a turbine, or the like. Meanwhile, in an outer sheel 8', refrigerant is circulated from an inlet 10 to an outlet 10' for cooling a reaction vessel 1', and the hydrogen gas that has operated the pump or the like is returned to the reaction vessel 1' through a hollow shaft 4' and a distribution chamber 2' for accumulating in hydrogen-gas-accumulating metal. At the time of accumulation, shafts 4 and 4' are rotated, and the metal powder in the vessel 1' is stirred for preventing from concentration and removing the generated heat smoothly. When this process of accumulation and discharge comes near to its end, switch valves 21-24 are switched over for circulating refrigerant in the outer shell 8 and heat medium in the outer shell 8'. This operation is repeated.

Abstract: PURPOSE:Particles of another alloy with a lower initial activation hydrogen pressure or temperature than that of the hydrogen-occluding alloy is dispersed in the alloy to facilitate with high efficiency the initial activation of the hydrogen- occluding alloy which is otherwise difficult to initiate its activity. CONSTITUTION:On the initial activation of a hydrogen-occuluding alloy with difficult initial activation, another hydrogen-occluding alloy with a lower initial activation hydrogen pressure or a lower inutial activation temperature is dispersed in the form of a powder by 0.01-10wt% based on the alloy. This process utilizes the exothermic heat of the higher active alloy on its intial activation to accelerate the initial activation of the less-active alloy, thus too little addition of the high-active alloy makes it difficult to activate the less-active alloy and the addition is required to be 0.1wt% or more. As the amount of the higher-active alloy becomes more, the initial rate of hydrogen occlusion becomes higher, however, exceeding 10wt% is undesirable, because it is uneconomical.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce heat loss extremely, by carrying out load leveling using both endothermic heat during hydrogen release of alloy for occluding hydrogen and exothermic heat during hydrogen occlusion of the alloy. CONSTITUTION:Hydrogen is released from the alloy A for occluding hydrogen in the regeneative tank 6 using excess heat when the heat is in excess state in a batch operation. A regenerative device which is used in the operation is obtained by providing the regenerative thak 6 packed with the alloy A for occluding hydrogen with the tank 7 for storing hydrogen packed with the alloy B for occluding hydrogen through the hyrogen pipe 8. The operation system is cooled by the endothermic heat during the operation, the evolved hydrogen is sent through the hydrogen pipe 8 to the tank 7, for storing hydrogen, and hydrogen is occluded in the alloy B for occluding hydrogen. While, when a heating medium in the heating medium pipe L is in a heat demanding state, hydrogen occluded in the alloy B for occluding hydrogen is released, transferred through the hydrogen pipe 8 to the regenerative tank 6, and hydrogen is occluded in the alloy A for occluding hydrogen in the regenerative tank 6. The heating medium in the pipe L is heated by the heat generated during this operation.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To manufacture a stable and easily usable metal (alloy) for storing hydrogen causing remarkably smaller hysteresis as compared to the case of conventional annealing by pulverizing the hydride of a dehydrogenated metal (alloy) for storing hydrogen in an inert gaseous atmosphere, melting it, and carrying out pulverization again. CONSTITUTION:A metal such as V or Nb or an alloy such as LaNi5 or CaNi5 for storing hydrogen is converted into hydride by allowing hydrogen to be well occluded, and the hydrogen is released. The dehydrogenated metal is pulverized to 10-300mum, especially several 10-100mum grain size in an inert gaseous atmosphere of He, Ne or the like. The pulverized metal is melted with an arc melting furnace in a similar inert gaseous atmosphere and pulverized again to said grain size in the inert gaseous atmosphere. Thus, the hysteresis of the resulting metal (alloy) for storing hydrogen during the absorption or release of hydrogen is inhibited, and the plateau part can be made flatter.
