Abstract: The method involves stripping out the moving stairs to leave only the support frame (3) and then inserting templates (8) into the deflection guide areas (4). The templates are fitted at predeterminable points with support elements (10) defining alignment points for the new components which are to be installed. The templates can be connected together through reinforcement elements (12). The templates are removed once the new staircase parts are installed.

Abstract: The method involves stripping out the moving steps to leave only the support frame (3) into which a prefabricated suitably dimensioned skeleton body (6) is fitted to the head and transition areas of the support frame and connected to components of this support frame. The skeleton body and support frame are then fitted out. The relevant skeleton body is made up of component parts which have smaller dimensions than those of the support frame. Independent claim describes skeleton body for updating escalators which can be inserted in the upper and lower entry areas of the support frame.
