Abstract: PURPOSE: A method for providing a service compatibility mode in a digital broadcast is provided to transmit detailed information for supporting both a TS level multiplexing mode and an ES level multiplexing mode in multiplexing horizontal compression bit streams. CONSTITUTION: A receiving system sets an identifier which indicates information related to a service compatibility mode. The receiving system distinguishes the service compatibility mode by the identifier in a received digital broadcast program. A left image frame and a right image frame are compressed in each transmission band at the service compatibility mode.
