Provided is a five sensory data synchronizing and transmitting apparatus and method, and an actual-feeling multimedia data providing system and method using the same. The five sensory data synchronizing and transmitting apparatus and method forms packets by describing vibration, an odor and a taste expressed in video/audio based on touch, odor and taste data descriptors and synchronizes the touch/odor/taste packets with video/audio packets on a frame basis; and then, the actual-feeling multimedia data providing system and method demultiplexes the received packets transmitted from the five sensory data synchronizing and transmitting apparatus into video data, audio data, touch data, odor data and taste data and transmits them to corresponding devices to thereby provide a user with an actual-feeling multimedia service.

Another object of the present invention is to provide an apparatus and method for retrieving three-dimensional image data suitable for various application areas and display apparatuses, and a computer-readable recording-medium that implements the method. Disclosed is a stereoscopic/multiview three-dimensional video processing system and its method. In the present invention, stereoscopic/multiview three-dimensional video data having a plurality of images at the same time are coded into a plurality of elementary streams. The plural elementary streams output at the same time are multiplexed according to the user's selected display mode to generate a single elementary stream. After packetization of the single elementary stream continuously generated, information about the stereoscopic/multiview three-dimensional video multiplexing method and the selected display mode information are added to the packet header of the stream. Then the packetized elementary stream is sent to the image reproducer or stored in storage media. The present invention multiplexes the multi-channel elementary streams having the same temporal and spatial information, thereby minimizing the overlapping header information, and performs streaming of data suitable for the user's demand and the user system environments.

The encoding apparatus of this research incorporates: a field separating means for separating right and left-eye input images into an odd field of the left-eye image (LO), even field of the left-eye image (LE), odd-numbered field (RO) of the right-eye image, and even-numbered field (RE) of the right-eye image; an encoding means for encoding the fields separated in the field separating means by performing motion and disparity compensation; and a multiplexing means for multiplexing the essential fields among the fields received from the encoding means, based on the user display information.

An MPEG system for processing stereoscopic/multiview three-dimensional video comprises a compressor (10) for processing input stereoscopic/multiview three- dimensional video data to generate field-based elementary streams of multiple channels, and integrating the multi-channel elementary streams into a single-channel elementary stream, a packetizer (20) for receiving the sinlge-channel elementary stream from the compressor (10) per access unit and packetizing the received single-channel elementary streams into a packetized stream, and a transmitter (30) for multiplexing the packetized stream into a multipixed stream for transmitting or storing the same, wherein the multiplexed stream includes viewpoint information including the number of viewpoint that the packetized stream provides.

The present invention relates to three-dimensional video processing apparatus and method using MPEG-4 object descriptor information and structures. The three-dimensional video processing apparatus and method that can support a three-dimensional video service smoothly to thereby provide a sense of reality and a cubic effect in an MPEG-4-based system by suggesting a three-dimensional video object descriptor structure and providing to a client an object descriptor, which includes information on kind of three-dimensional video, number of viewpoints, number of media streams and a plurality of display methods; and a method thereof.
