Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a multi-wavelength optical buffer utilizing a loop mirror and capable of sending a cell to a required node by preventing collision between cells by electric control when cells of various wavelengths simultaneously arrive at the same node from a high speed network. SOLUTION: The multi-wavelength buffer is provided with a loop mirror 10 for dividing the wavelength of each of cells λ1 to λn inputted from an input terminal at initial time into plural components, storing these wavelength divided cells and reflecting each cell to the inputted direction, a cell input means 20 for inputting each cell reflected from the loop mirror 10 to the mirror 10 again by controlling the gain and optical power of the cell and a controller 30 for controlling the output of the cells inputted and stored in the loop mirror 10 to the external in each wavelength by electric pulses 31. After optically storing the cell having low priority as necessary, the stored cell is selectively outputted by an electric control signal when there is spare traffic.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the system cost by realizing switching capability of a large capacity in an optical asynchronous transfer mode ATM switching system so as to considerably decrease number of hardware sets. SOLUTION: A wavelength division multiplex/time division multiplex conversion module 24 demultiplexes an optical channel that is wavelength-multiplexed via a transmission link 23 of each input terminal of an optical ATM switch, converts the wavelength into a primary wavelength for path distribution for each channel, compresses cells to prevent collision among plural cells and applies time division multiplex processing to the cells. Then a 1st path distributor 25 distributes each cell whose wavelength is converted into the primary wavelength to a primary destination, a time division multiplex processing/wavelength division multiplex processing switching module 26 demultiplexes a channel signal distributed to a path, inversely compresses the signal into an original signal form, converts the wavelength into a wavelength to be distributed to a final destination, compresses the cells to prevent cell collision again and a 2nd path distributor 27 distributes the signal that is inversely compressed to the final destination.
