Abstract: A method for automatically verifying the accuracy of an electronic map, said method involving an XORing operation for raster data produced by scanning an original map and vector data finally produced based on the raster data, and a filtering operation for data resulting from the XORing operation. The method includes the steps of scanning an original map, thereby producing raster data, digitizing the raster data, thereby producing vector data, transforming the vector data into raster data, comparing the raster data transformed from the vector data with the original raster data by use of a function of similarity involving an exclusive ORing operation, and removing noise existing in the original raster data by a filtering operation. In accordance with this method, it is possible to reduce the verification time and costs while improving the accuracy of the verification.

Abstract: A method for automatically verifying the accuracy of an electronic map by an algorism which is adapted to verify irregular unit objects on the electronic map, thereby reducing the verification time and costs while obtaining improved verification accuracy. The method includes the steps of calculating a desired number of unit straight lines to be included in a broken line, overlapping an image, which is indicative of raster data transformed from vector data obtained based on original raster data of an original map, with an image indicative of the original raster data, thereby calculating the number of overlapping unit straight lines, and verifying the accuracy of the electronic map, based on the calculated results along with desired limitations associated with those results.

Abstract: A method for automatically verifying the accuracy of an electronic map is described. The method includes determining whether a symbol-affixed line is a symmetric line or an asymmetric line, thereby defining a figure which may receive a symbol. The number of symbols of the symbol-affixed line received in the defined figure during movement of the figure along the symbol-affixed line is calculated, and an ideal number of symbols is calculated. The method then verifies the accuracy of the electronic map, based on the calculated results along with desired limitations associated with those results.

Abstract: Line components of raster data obtained by scanning an original map are digitized to thereby provide vector data for an electronic map. To automatically verify the accuracy of this vector data it is transformed into raster data using a desired algorithm, such as the Bresenham algorithm, and then the edges of the line components are transformed into sawtooth-shaped edges. This saw-tooth-shaped raster data (upper right, fig 4) is then XORed with the original raster data (upper left, fig 4). The remaining noise is then removed using a filter having a desired size eg of 2x2 pixels, thereby enabling the accuracy of the electronic map to be verified.
