Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition comprising a polymer or a compound having a five member ring dithiocarbonate group and a nucleophilic reagent which is useful for a coating, an adhesive, an ink, an architectural sealing agent, a semiconductor sealing agent or the like when the composition itself or a cured product obtained by curing the composition is heated, smell is hardly generated. SOLUTION: The composition comprises a polymer or a compound having at least one of the five member ring dithiocarbonate group represented by formula (I) (wherein R1, R2 and R3 are each a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group), a nucleophilic reagent, a thiol group or a compound having disulphide bonds and an oxidizing agent.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resin composition giving a hardened material (a film, etc.), excellent in appearance, mechanical property and the like. SOLUTION: The resin composition contains a vinyl copolymer having an epoxy group and a branched glutaric acid. This branched glutaric acid is preferably 2,4-dialkylglutaric acid, 3-alkylglutaric acid or 2,3-dialkylglutaric acid. This composition can contain a dicarboxylic acid excepting the branched glutaric acid, and can be also usable for a powder paint.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply obtain the subject high molecular weight polymer useful as a medical stitch, etc., excellent in biodegradability in high purity by subjecting a hydroxycarboxylic acid or its oligomer to polycondensation in the presence of a specific polycondensation catalyst. SOLUTION: (A) A hydroxycarboxylic acid or its oligomer (e.g. including lactic acid) is subjected to polycondensation in the presence of (B) a polycondensation catalyst comprising an alkali (earth)metal-based compound or a metal-based compound belonging to the group IIIb of the periodic table [e.g. a catalyst in a form of (bi)carbonate, a hydroxycarboxylic acid salt, an acetic acid salt or a (hydr)oxide]. Furthermore, the reaction is carried out by adding the component B thereto so that its concentration in reaction solution becomes 5-1,000ppm. Thereby, a high molecular weight biodegradable polymer having 30,000 to 100,000 weight-average molecular weight can simply be obtained in high purity without requiring removal of catalyst.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a composition which hardly emits a sulfur-like odor and is excellent in hardness, strengths, adhesiveness, and resistances to water, chemicals, weather, staining, blocking, or the like, by compounding a compound or polymer having at least one 5-memebered cyclic dithiocarbonate group, a nucleophilic reagent, and a metal phthalocyanine (salt). SOLUTION: A polymer or compound having at least one 5-membered cyclic dithiocarbonate group represented by formula I, a nucleophilic reagent, and 0.0001-10 wt.% metal phthalocyanine (salt) represented by formula II are compounded. In the formulas, R1 to R3 are each H or a lower alkyl; X is a metal atom; and Y1 to Y16 are each H, an alkyl, a substituted alkyl, a halogen, nitro, amino, azo, thiocyanate, carboxyl, a haloformly, formyl, carbamoyl, cyano, hydroxyl, an alkoxy, an aryloxy, or the like. The nucleophilic reagent is the one which gives a share in electrons to the thiocarbonyl group of the 5-membered cyclic dithiocarbonate group, and its example is a compound having an amino, hydroxyl, imino or thiol group.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an excellent biodegradable plastic by subjecting a mixture mainly comprising a hydroxycarboxylic acid or its oligomer obtd. by the distillation of a hydroxycarboxylic acid or its lactide to polycondensation by dehydration in the presence of a polycondensation catalyst. SOLUTION: An aq. lactic acid soln. having a concn. of 50-90wt.% is dehydrated at 120-150 deg.C and distilled at 130-200 deg.C under a reduced pressure to give a mixture mainly comprising a 2-6C aliph. hydrocarboxylic acid (e.g. lactic acid). A mixture mainly comprising lactic acid is melted by heaing to 120-180 deg.C in a nitrogen atmosphere in the presence of 0.03-10wt.% (based on the mixture) catalyst comprising an inorg. solid acid catalyst (e.g. aluminum silicate) alone or a combination thereof with an alkali metal compd. catalyst and then is subjected to polycondensation at 160-250 deg.C under a reduced pressure, thus giving a polymer having an average mol.wt. of 50,000-300,000. The polymer is used for wrapping films, drink bottles, drug delivery systems, etc.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preventing a bad odor from emanating from a composition which contains a nucleophilic reagent and a polymer or compound having a 5-membered-cyclic dithiocarbonate group (or groups) and is useful for coating materials, adhesives, inks, sealants for buildings, sealants for semiconductors, etc., or a method for preventing a bad odor from emanating from a cured item obtained by curing the composition and to provide a method for improving the properties of the cured item. SOLUTION: The method for preventing a bad odor from emanating comprises the incorporation of an epoxy compound into a composition containing a nucleophilic reagent and a polymer or compound having a 5-membered-cyclic dithiocarbonate group (or groups) represented by formula I (R1, R2, and R3 are each H or a lower alkyl) or into a cured item obtained by curing the composition. The properties of the cured item are improved by the above method.
