A method for Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) service discovery and an IPTV receiver using the same are provided. The method for IPTV service discovery includes collecting system provider discovery information (SP discovery information), and collecting service discovery information by using the collected SP discovery information, wherein the SP discovery information includes target package information regarding a segment obtained by dividing the service discovery information.

A method of processing an interactive service and an apparatus thereof are disclosed. The present invention includes receiving uncompressed audio contents or uncompressed video contents from an external decoding unit, extracting an identifier of a frame from the received content, sending a request containing the identifier to a server and receiving a trigger for the content from the server based on the request, wherein the trigger indicates the current time of the contents and references a particular interactive event in an application parameter table or signals that the event is to be executed now or at a specified future time and the application parameter table includes information about at least one of applications.

The present invention includes a receiving module configured to receive declarative contents and a first PDI(Profiles, Demographics, Interests) table including a first PDI question having a first question id for identifying the first PDI question and receive a second PDI table including a second PDI question having a second question id for identifying the second PDI question, an obtaining module configured to obtain an answer to the first PDI question, a storing module configured to store the obtained answer to the first PDI table, a fetching module configured to fetch the stored answer to the second PDI question by using the first question id and the second question id, wherein the first question id is equal to the second question id, wherein the storing module further stores the fetched answer to the second PDI table and a downloading module configured to download contents using the fetched answer, wherein the declarative contents fetches the stored answer by using an API(Application Programming Interface).

The present invention includes a PDI module configured to receive a PDI table, wherein the PDI table includes at least one question element having attributes of a PDI question, wherein the PDI table further includes a table Id field identifying the PDI table, a table version field indicating a version of the PDI table and a time field indicating a date and a time of the most recent change to the PDI question and extract the PDI question from the at least one question element, wherein each of the at least one question element has a different type, a PDI answer module configured to receive a PDI answer according to the extracted PDI question, a filtering module configured to receive a filtering criteria information and filter contents of the digital service signal by comparing the filtering criteria information against the received the PDI answer and a content storing module configured to download the filtered contents, wherein the type of the at least one question element indicates a type for the PDI question with one of an integer answer, a Boolean answer, a selection answer, a text answer and an answer with no PDI question.

The present invention includes a receiving module configured to receive the digital service signals having contents and receive URL information for additional data related to the contents, an extracting module configured to extract logo data for indicating contents provider from each of the video frames of the contents, wherein the logo data is located in a specific area in the each of the video frames, a comparing module configured to compare the extracted logo data with stored logo data to obtain channel information of the contents, an obtaining module configured to obtain the channel information of the contents from metadata related to the logo data and obtain the additional data related to the contents and a generating module configured to generate a request for obtaining the URL information using the obtained channel information, wherein the receiving module receives the URL information using the generated request, wherein the obtaining module obtains the additional data over an IP(Internet Protocol network) according to the URL information.

The method includes: executing an enhanced service playing application not dependent on any single channel; obtaining an uncompressed audio video (AV) content; playing the uncompressed AV content through the display unit; attempting to obtain contents information on the uncompressed AV content on the basis of a part of the uncompressed AV content; transmitting an enhanced service request message to an enhanced service providing server not dependent on any single channel by the enhanced service; receiving an enhanced service from the enhanced service providing server; and playing the enhanced service through the display unit by the enhanced service playing application.
