    Abstract: A LCD device includes first and second substrates facing each other and a liquid crystal layer between the two substrates. A plurality of gate bus lines (1) are arranged in a first direction and a plurality of data bus lines (3) are arranged in a second perpendicular direction on the first substrate to define a pixel region. A pixel electrode (13) is electrically charged through the data bus line (3) in the pixel region. A common auxiliary electrode (15) surrounds the pixel electrode (13). A gate insulator (35, fig 2C) covers the first substrate along with a passivation layer (37) formed on the insulator. A light shielding layer (25) is formed on the second substrate along with a colour filter layer (23) and common electrode (27).

    Abstract: A thin film transistor (TFT) matrix substrate has a testing circuit that can accurately detect the breaks in gate lines and data lines. In a substrate, TFTs are provided to be connected at the intersections of the gate lines and the data lines. A first shorting bar is commonly connected to the gate lines and a second shorting bar is commonly connected to the data lines. A first test pad receives a first test signal to be applied to the first shorting bar and a second test pad receives a first test signal to be applied to the second shorting bar. A third shorting bar is commonly connected to static electricity preventing devices installed at the gate lines and a fourth shorting bar is commonly connected to static electricity preventing devices installed at the data lines. A third test pad allows the second test signal to be applied to the third and fourth shorting during driving testing if the gate lines and the data lines have breaks or damaged.
