Abstract:
An LCD and a fabrication method thereof are provided to prevent light leakage caused by a lump of spacers at a specific position by forming a spacer in an active area in each cell, evenly distributing a plurality of spacers using an inkjet method and drying the spacers at a high speed. A lower substrate(110) on which a plurality of cells, including a thin film transistor and a pixel electrode(117), is arranged by a matrix form and each including faces an upper substrate(120) each other. Multiple ink droplets including spacers(134) are dropped onto the lower substrate to maintain a cell-gap between the lower substrate and the upper substrate. The ink droplets are made to overlap each other and then dried. The lower substrate and the upper substrate are bonded together.

An LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) and a fabrication method thereof are provided to form a black matrix and a spacer in a process by using a combined black matrix and old black spacer in a COT(Color Filter On Transistor) structure, thereby simplifying the process, reducing the necessary time, and improving yield. An LCD includes a first substrate, a second substrate, and an old black spacer(212). The second substrate is opposite to the first substrate. The old black spacer includes a black matrix formed between the first substrate and the second substrate. The old black spacer is formed in an inkjet type. A jet solution is black ink composed of a solvent and the old black spacer. The solvent of the black ink is a volatile substance.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To omit a complicated photolithography step for forming an overcoat layer in a method of manufacturing color filter substrate of an LCD device by forming the overcoat layer between a photothermal conversion layer and a color filter printing layer since thermal energy converted by the photothermal conversion layer when a color filter layer is formed is transmitted to the color filter printing layer through the overcoat layer to form first, second and third overcoat layers. SOLUTION: The method includes steps for: defining a plurality of pixel regions on a substrate and forming black matrix layers on the substrate except in the plurality of pixel regions; positioning a printing film including a color filter printing layer, the overcoat layer, and the photothermal conversion layer above the substrate; and patterning a corresponding color filter layer and a corresponding overcoat layer in each of the pixel regions by irradiating the printing film in a region corresponding to any one of the plurality of pixel regions with light. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display preventing movement of a spacer maintaining a cell gap between substrates by external pressure and light leakage due to positional change of the spacer by forming the spacer in a polyhedron shape having a surface treatment layer to reinforce a contact area and adhesive force to the substrates, and to provide its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display includes a first substrate comprising gate lines, data lines substantially intersecting the gate lines and a first alignment layer, a second substrate stuck to the first substrate opposite to each other and comprising a color filter layer and a second alignment layer and the polyhedric spacer maintaining the cell gap between the first and the second substrates.
