Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high resolution/high opening rate active matrix type organic electroluminescent element in which a production turnover is improved, and its manufacturing process. SOLUTION: An array element and an organic electroluminescent diode are configured with different substrates.After an inspection process for each substrate, connection is made to reduce a fraction defective of products. An opening rate is improved without being affected by the design of a thin film transistor of the array element. In a structure where the array element and the organic electroluminescent diode are configured on the different substrates and connected together through a conductive spacer, in order to prevent defective contact between the conductive spacer and the organic electroluminescent diode, a difference is provided between an external pressure and an internal pressure of the substrate in a bonding process for a improved contacting force due to a pressure difference. SOLUTION: In this organic electroluminescent element for improving particularly an opening rate and a method for manufacturing the element, the organic electroluminescent element is formed so that the positions of drive elements formed in the pixels adjacent to each other are positioned close to each other to simultaneously receive signals with one power supply line. Thus, since the number of the power supply lines can be halved as compared with conventional elements, defective wiring can be prevented by improving the opening rate and brightness of the organic electroluminescent element. An independent claim is also included for: fabrication of an organic electroluminescent device, which comprises: (a) formation of a matrix layer as well as an organic electroluminescent diode onto substrates; and (b) assembling the components into the device structure.

The TFTs and OLED are formed on opposite substrates to form a top emission OLED device.

Abstract: Electroluminescent display device includes a gate pad electrode electrically connected to a gate line and having lower and upper layers; and data pad electrode electrically connected to the data line and having lower and upper layers. The upper layers of the gate and data pad electrodes have gate and data pad contact holes exposing the lower layers of the gate and data pad electrodes, respectively. Electroluminescent display device comprises: (a) two substrates (101, 171) facing each other and having sub-pixel regions; (b) gate line on the first substrate; (c) data line crossing the gate line to define the sub-pixel region on the first substrate; (d) array element connected to the gate and data lines; (e) connection electrode connected to the array element and disposed in the sub-pixel region; (f) gate pad electrode (111) electrically connected to the gate line and having lower and upper layers; (g) data pad electrode electrically connected to the data line and having lower and upper layers; and (h) electroluminescent diode on the second substrate. The data pad electrode is disposed at the same layer as the gate pad electrode. The upper layers of the gate and data pad electrodes have gate and data pad contact holes exposing the lower layers of the gate and data pad electrodes, respectively. An independent claim is also included for a method of fabricating the above electroluminescent display device comprising forming the gate line, the gate pad electrode at one end of the gate line and the data pad electrode on the first substrate. Each of the gate line and the gate and data pad electrodes has lower and upper layers. A gate insulator is formed covering the gate line and the gate and data pad electrodes. The data line is formed on the gate insulator crossing the gate line to define the sub-pixel region. The array element is formed connected to the gate and data lines. A passivation layer (145) is formed on the array element. A connection electrode (155) is formed on the passivation layer in the sub-pixel region. The method includes exposing the lower layers of the gate and data pad electrodes, forming an electroluminescent diode on the second substrate, and attaching the two substrates.
