Abstract:
In some embodiments the present disclosure describes novel pipette devices, pipetting systems and methods of use thereof which require a uses to use less force for one or more functions such as to: load a pipette tip, aspirate sample, dispense sample and eject a pipette tip. A pipette device of the disclosure comprises: a pipette plunger; at least one pair of magnets; and at least one spring; wherein the pipette device configured to reduce the force required by a user to aspirate, dispense, load and eject a pipette tip. In some embodiments, a pipette device of the disclosure further comprises a detent. In some embodiments a pipette according to the disclosure further comprises a trigger. Some embodiments describe electroporation systems comprising a pipette device of the disclosure as well as various configurations of electroporation systems and devices and methods of use thereof.

An apparatus (200) for preparation of an electrophoresis slab gel may include a base (220) having an opening configured to receive a cassette (100) configured to contain an electrophoresis slab gel, a clamping mechanism (240) configured to move relative to the base (220) between an open position in which the clamping mechanism (240) permits insertion of a cassette into the base (220), and a closed position in which the clamping mechanism (240) is configured to clamp a cassette received in the base, a compressible pad (260) operatively coupled to the clamping mechanism in a position to compress against a cassette (100) received in the base (220) in the closed position of the clamping mechanism (240). The cassette (100) may include a first plate (11) and a second plate (12), and a spacer mechanism (13) separate from each of the first and second plates, the spacer mechanism configured to be positioned between the inner faces of the first plate and the second plate. When subjected to a clamping force exerted on the outer faces of the first and second plates, the spacer mechanism is configured to maintain a separation distance between the inner faces of the first and second plates, and provide a seal to prevent leakage of an electrophoresis gel solution introduced between the plates.

The present disclosure provides systems for gel electrophoresis and electrotransfer comprising one or more chambers (10a, 10b) that can removably and interchangeably receive either an electrophoresis cassette, or an electrotransfer cassette, and provides an electrical interface for both electrophoresis and electrotransfer of biomolecules. The present disclosure also provides electrophoresis devices including clamps and electrotransfer cassettes and related devices. Methods for electrophoresis and electrotransfer using the systems and devices of the disclosure are also provided.
