Abstract:
Novel dimer esters and polyesters derived from and adduct of 5-norbornene-2,3-dicarboxylic anyhydride and O,O-dialkyldithiophosphoric acid have been produced. These dimer esters and polyesters are useful extreme pressure agents, antiwear agents and oxidation inhibitors as well as friction modifying agents for functional fluids used in motorized vehicles.
Abstract:
Reaction products of 5-norbornene-2,3-dicarboxylic anhydride O,O-dialkyldithiophosphate adduct of the formula (I) have been found to be beneficial additives for functional fluids used in the machinery of motorized vehicles. These additives are effective extreme pressure agents and antiwear agents as well as antioxidants for use in such functional fluids as lubricating oils including automatic transmission fluids and hydraulic fluids.
Abstract:
A lubricant composition having improved viscosity index characteristics is described that comprises (A) at least one vegetable or synthetic triglyceride oil of the formula wherein R , R and R are aliphatic hydrocarbyl groups having at least 60 percent monounsaturated character and containing from about 6 to about 24 carbon atoms and (B) at least one mixed ester of a carboxy-containing interpolymer. Optionally, the composition may also contain (C) a synthetic ester base oil, and (D) an antioxidant. ha

Abstract:
Nitrogen-free esters of a carboxy-containing interpolymer, wherein the interpolymer has an inherent viscosity ranging from about 0.05 to 1.5 are disclosed. The esters are useful as additives in functional fluids including transmission fluids (both automatic and manual), hydraulic fluids and gear fluids. The transmission, hydraulic and gear fluids containing the esters exhibit improved shear stability while maintaining desired high and low temperature viscosity characteristics.

Abstract:
Combinations of substituted carboxylic (especially succinic) acid esters and heterocyclic condensation products of said substituted carboxylic acids are useful in lubricants for inhibitors of "lead paint" deposition in internal combustion engines. Especially useful are compositions comprising a major proportion of a pentaerythritol ester of an alkenyl succinic acid in which the alkenyl group contains at least about 30 carbon atoms, and a minor proportion of a heterocyclic condensation product of said alkenyl succinic acid derived from a 5-membered ring heterocycle containing at least two ring hetero atoms separated by a single carbon atom, at least one of said hetero atoms being nitrogen.
