PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a functional fluid composition excellent in abrasion resistance, extreme-pressure property and adaptability to seal and suitable for internal combustion engines regardless of low phosphorus level by including a specific thiocarbonate and a specific acylated nitrogen containing compound. SOLUTION: This functional fluid composition comprises (A) a compound of formula I [R to R are each H or hydrocarbyl; X is O or S; (n) is 0-2; T is hydrocarbyl, a hetero group, hydroxyhydrocarbyl, etc.] and (B) an acylated nitrogen-containing compound having a substituent group of >=10 carbon atoms. Furthermore, the composition preferably further contains a phosphorus-containing compound, etc., a compound of formula II [T and T are each R, OR, SR or NRR; R is a hydrocarbyl; X and X are each O or S; (n) is 0-3], etc.

SOLUTION: This composition contains at least one of compounds selected from the following groups: (A-1) compounds represented by the formula: T T -P (X )-(S)n -S-C(X )-L , (A-2) compounds represented by the formula: T T -P(X )-(s)n - S-(DMTD)-S-J, (A-3) compounds represented by the formula: L -C(X )-(S)n - S-(DMTD)-S-G and (A-4) a mixture of two or more kinds of (A-1), (A-2) and (A-3). PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a lubricating oil composition nonproblematic in sludge formation and the deterioration of a sealing agent during a stop-and-go drive under high-humidity and low-temperature conditions by mixing an oil having lubricating viscosity with a specified thiocarbamate and an aromatic aldehyde and/or an oxirane-ring-containing epoxide. SOLUTION: This thiocarbamate is represented by formula I [wherein R1 and R2 are each a 3-5C alkyl, an aryl, or an aralkyl or they may be combined with each other to form an alicyclic or heterocyclic ring together with the N atom; n is 1 or 2; when n is 1, T is a monovalent metal or CR3R4(CR12R13)aQ (wherein a is 0 or 1; R3, R4, R12 and R13 are each H, an alkyl or an aryl; Q is formula II, III or the like (wherein R5 is H, an alkyl or an aralkyl); and when n is 2, T is a divalent metal or a hydrocarbylene). The aromatic aldehyde used is vanillin, for example. The epoxide used is an alkyl ester of a vegetable epoxide, for example. 2-50 pts.wt. aromatic aldehyde or the like is used per 10 pts.wt. thiocarbamate.

SOLUTION: This oil composition contains (A) an oil having lubricating viscosity as main component and (B) a compound of the formula R to R are each hydrocarbyl; X and X are each O or S; (n) is 0-3} and (C) an acylated nitrogen-containing compound having a >=10C aliphatic substituting group [e.g. (C1 ) a compound derived from a carboxylic acid acylating agent and at least one kind of (C2 ) an amino compound containing at least one -NH- in which C1 is bonded to C2 through an imide bond, an amide bond, an amidine bond or a salt bond in resin respectively sufficient amounts to improve a fuel, and further as necessary, contains (D) a phosphorus-containing acid other than the compound B, its ester or salt or a phosphorus-containing compound.

The aromatic aldehyde used is vanillin, for example. The epoxide having terminal and/or internal oxirane rings is a 1-8C alkyl ester of a vegetable oil epoxide, for example. The nitrogen-containing dispersant is used in an amount of 2-75 pts.wt. aromatic aldehyde or the like per 100 pts.wt. Mannich reaction product.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition reduced in a sulfur content, a phosphorus content and especially a zinc content and suited for use in lubricants and hydraulic fluids. SOLUTION: This composition comprises a reaction product (AT) formed by treating a compound represented by formula (A) with a compound which decreases the combined-sulfur content of the compound and an acrylated nitrogenous compound having a substituent having at least 10 aliphatic carbon atoms. The reaction product (AT) has reactivity with copper lower than that of component (A). The compound which decreases the combined-sulfur content is desirably a triaryl phosphate or a dialkyl hydrogenphosphite. In formula (A), R , R , R and R , which are independent of each other, are hydrocarbyl groups; X and X , which are independent of each other, are O or S; and n is 0-3.

This invention relates to a composition, comprising: (A) a metal, amine or ammonium salt of a compound represented by the formula wherein in Formula (A-I), X , X and X and X are independently O or S, X and X can be NR , a and b are independently zero or 1, and R , R and R are independently hydrocarbyl groups and R can be hydrogen; and (B) a thiocarbamate represented by the formula R R N-C(X)S-(CR R )aZ wherein in Formula (B-I), R , R , R and R are independently hydrogen or hydrocarbyl groups, provided that at least one of R1 and R is a hydrocarbyl group; X is O or S; a is 1 or 2; and Z is an activating group, a hydrocarbyl group, a hydroxy hydrocarbyl group, a hetero group, or a -SC(X)-NR R group; provided that when a is 2, Z is an activating group. These compositions are useful in providing lubricating oil compositions and functional fluids, especially engine lubricating oils, with enhanced antiwear properties, and in one embodiment enhanced antioxidant properties.

Disclosed is a lubricating composition having a major amount of an oil of lubrication viscosity and a minor amount of (A) a nitrogen containing dispersant with a total base number of from 20 to 160 on an oil-free basis wherein the improvement comprises adding to said dispersant; the dispersant comprising a Mannich reaction product and/or a reaction product of a hydrocarbyl-substituted succinic acylating agent with ammonia or an amine; (B) a sludge preventing/seal protecting additive of at least one aldehyde or epoxide or mixtures thereof.

This invention relates to a composition, comprising: (A) a compound represented by the formula wherein in Formula (A-I), R , R , R and R are independently hydrocarbyl groups, X and X are independently O or S, and n is zero to 3; and (B) an acylated nitrogen-containing compound having a substituent of at least 10 aliphatic carbon atoms. In one embodiment, the inventive composition further comprises (C) a second phosphorus compound other than (A), said second phosphorus compound being a phosphorus acid, phosphorus acid ester, phosphorus acid salt, or derivative thereof. In one embodiment, the inventive composition further comprises (D) an alkali or alkaline earth metal salt of an organic sulfur acid, carboxylic acid or phenol. In one embodiment, the inventive composition further comprises (E) a thiocarbamate. These compositions are useful in providing lubricating compositions and functional fluids with enhanced antiwear properties.
