Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize common transmitter architecture which can be simply installed and which has an orthogonal transmit diversity(OTD) system and a space time spreading(STS) system. SOLUTION: The transmitter 10 has an OTD mode and an STD mode and 1st and 2nd antenna systems. The 1st antenna system 11 has a time multiplexer 12, an inerter 14, switches 16, 26, amplifiers 18, 20, a mixer 22 and an adder 24. The time multiplexer 12 applies time multiplexing to 1st in-phase signals with each other, 1st orthogonal signals with each other, a 2nd in-phase signal and its inverse, and a 2nd orthogonal signal and its inverse, respectively. The mixer 22 mixes the output of the time multiplexer 12 with a Walsh function. The result is fed to the adder 24. Only when the transmitter 10 is set to the STS mode, the switch 26 sends 3rd and 4th mixed time multiplex signals to the adder.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To share the constitution part of a prescribed type regardless of whether a reception device uses orthogonal transmission diversity(OTD) or a a space time spreading(STS) system through the use of a binary switch. SOLUTION: A reception device/transmission device architecture incorporating both opening loop transmission diversities by using plural binary switches is disclosed. The constitution part of a prescribed type can be shared regardless of whether a reception device uses orthogonal transmission diversity(OTD) or a space time spreading system by adopting the binary switch. Thus, the constitution parts of the reception device are reduced and reception device is simplified. Then, the architecture can be implemented on an integrated chip for single application.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a general viterbi algorithm and cycle technology capable of providing superior performance to that of a conventional list viterbi decoder reducing calculation quantity to a level less than that of the general viterbi algorithm and simplifying circuit constitution. SOLUTION: The method has a step (A) for decoding the sequence of received symbols in order to generate a maximum likelihood estimation path, a step (B) for checking whether a decoded frame generated from the maximum likelihood estimation path passes a frame quality reference, a step (C) for cyclically tracing back the path generating the decoded frame passing the frame quality reference along the maximum likelihood estimation path until the generation of trace back by deviating the decoded frame generated from the maximum likelihood estimation path from a different stage along the maximum likelihood estimation path when the decoded frame does not pass the frame quality reference, and a step (D) for outputting the decoded frame passing the frame quality reference.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily mount a polyphase filter with a small coefficient and at a low cost by using a function consisting of a non-recursive numerator and a recursive denominator, i.e., a polynomial concerning zM to the polyphase filter corresponding to M pieces of signal channels. SOLUTION: A polyphase receiver 300 comprises a serial/parallel(s/p) converter 302 consisting of a cascade of delays 304, M pieces of FIR filters 306, an M-point inverse discrete Fourier transform(IDFT) 308 and recursive filters 310. An FFT is also feasible as the IDFT 308. Each delay 304 has a form of z with each filter 306 having a form of Ni(z) and each filter 310 having a form of 1/Dj (zM), respectively. The receiver 300 receives a serial signal stream corresponding to the serial stream that is generated by a polyphase transmitter, processes the received serial stream, and recovers M pieces of channel signals corresponding to the original M pieces of signals which are processed by the transmitter.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate communication channel allocation management in a base station without adding equipments by monitoring the overflow condition of a buffer and an error rate and controlling an encoding rate, a channel number and a transmission rate by a controller. SOLUTION: Data from sources 16-20 are received in elastic buffers 22-26 and encoded and interleaved in encoding/interleaving circuits 36-40. Then, the controller 34 monitors the overflow condition of variable rate Walsh encoders 28-32 and controls the encoding rate and the channel number for the buffer. Then, they are modulated in modulation/diffusion devices 42-46 and outputted through a coupler 48 and an RF circuit 50. A receiver 14 inputs them through an antenna 70, demodulation/de-diffusion devices 74-78 and decoding/de- interleaving devices 85-90 to the buffers 92-96. In this case, the controller 34 monitors the error rate and controls the transmission rate. Thus, the allocation management of a communication channel in the base station is facilitated.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently process time sampling I and Q samples for restoring the information of an FM signal on calculation by minimizing the complication of a signal processor in digital FM. SOLUTION: This device is provided with an I & Q sampler 12 for generating the data samples of the I signal and Q signal of an FM signal. A signal processor 15 obtains the sample of the modulated waveform of the FM signal from the I and Q data samples by using the Lagrangian interpolation function of the I and Q data samples. The derived function of the I and Q signals obtained by the differentiation of the Lagrangian function is obtained as variables. Moreover, a modulated waveform indicating a low signal distortion can he obtained by using a correction coefficient for correcting the modulated waveform sample obtained horn interpolation based on the Lagrangion.

Abstract: In a preferred embodiment, an FM demodulator (10) includes an I and Q sampler (12) for generating data samples of I and Q signals (on 13, 14) of an FM signal (on 15). A signal processor (15) derives samples of a modulating waveform of the FM signal from the I and Q data samples, using a Lagrangian interpolation function of the I and Q data samples. Variables include derivatives of the I and Q signals obtained by differentiation of the Lagrangian function. Preferably, the processor further utilizes a correction factor to correct the modulating waveform samples obtained from the Lagrangian-based interpolation, to thereby derive a modulating waveform exhibiting low signal distortion.
