Abstract: The authentication request containing information such as customer identification and account code is received from the service provider and the subscriber status of the customer is determined. The authentication/non-authentication message is sent to the service provider based on the determined subscriber status. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) method of performing balance request operation in electronic commerce (e-commerce) system; (2) method of performing debit request operation in e-commerce system; and (3) method of performing credit request operation in e-commerce system.

Abstract: This invention relates to an enhanced method and apparatus for providing notification to a telecommunications customer using prepaid service that his/her prepaid balance is below a pre-specif ied threshold. The number of notifications is limited to a specified number within a specified interval. Advantageously, the customer is spared the nuisance of receiving multiple notifications when he/she is already aware of the problem.
