Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus which enable the development of a simple and inexpensive device for providing the wavelength conversion of an optical communication signal and 3R (re-amplification, re-timing, and re-shaping) optical signal regeneration. SOLUTION: The method and the apparatus for providing optical 3R regeneration include 1) generating an encoded optical clock signal from at least an optical signal, 2) introducing the encoded clock signal into a delay interference section of a regenerator so as to produce an amplitude modulated clock signal, and outputting the amplitude modulated clock signal. The outputted amplitude modulated clock signal preserves information present within the input optical signal.
