Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the performance and the throughput of a wireless communication system by allocating a burst transmission period to transmission path between a base station and a mobile station in accordance with the function of phasing fluctuation. SOLUTION: The fluctuation of the phasing of a data channel serviced to a user is determined in a step 101. A short burst transmission period is allocated to the user having the high fluctuation of phasing (step 103) and the long burst transmission period is allocated to the user with the small fluctuation of phasing (step 104). In allocating the transmission period of burst, a system decides the level of the moving degree of the user in a step 102 in addition to the consideration of phasing fluctuation. When the mobile station is decided to move with the high moving degree, the short burst transmission period is allocated to communication with the mobile station in the step 103. The long burst transmission period is allocated to the mobile station with the low moving degree in the step 104.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a burst control method of a CDMA system. SOLUTION: An MS(mobile station) detects relative signal strength received from a BTS(base transceiver station) in an active set (the set of the BTS which can be connected with the MS). A limited active set (sub-set) constituted of the BTS which can service the MS in the active set is prepared. Then, the geometry of each sub-set is decided, and power adjustment (the difference of power for bits) is calculated for each sub-set by using the geometry. Then, an available data rate is decided for each sub-set by using the power adjustment and available power of the BTS in the sub-set. The minimum value of the data rates of all the BTS in the sub-set is selected as the available data rate of the subset. The maximum value of the available data rates of all the sub-sets is selected as the data rate of the MS.

Abstract: The invention provides a novel burst duration assignment process that increases the performance and improves the throughput of communication systems. In particular, the invention provides an optimal burst duration assignment methodology such that resources are efficiently utilized and maximized in a communication system such as a code division multiple access (CDMA) system. According to the invention, burst duration is assigned based on channel fading fluctuation and user mobility in the communication system. In general, shorter burst duration is assigned to users with higher fading fluctuation and high mobility. Longer burst duration is assigned to users with lower fading fluctuation and low mobility. In a particular embodiment of the invention, the burst assignment is based on a function of duration versus fluctuation.

Abstract: The invention provides a novel methodology for increasing the performance of CDMA systems with packet data services by accommodating a variety of users with different rates. The invention operates to increase the spectrum efficiency of a wireless system by using an optimal transmission set of base transceiver stations and assigning proper data rates to efficiently utilize the radio resources. In particular, the invention operates to decrease interference so that the quality of data transmission in CDMA systems is advantageously maintained. Moreover, the invention operates to increase the allocation of bandwidth, particularly for high-speed data services. The invention provides a methodology to evaluate the data rates of different combinations of BTSs that may be in connection with a particular mobile station (MS), allocate an appropriate data rate for the MS and make allocation of system resources more efficient in a multi-user environment.

Abstract: In a system of communication, a sending node sends a message to a receiving node, which NAKs unsuccessful transmissions. The sending node screens the NAKs to determine if they were sent before the receiver could receive previous transmissions of the same data NAKed. One screening technique is based on an estimated round trip time of a message. Another alternate technique looks a flag in the NAK that synchronizes the sender and the receiver.
