Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved process of manufacturing an emitter structure from nano wires. SOLUTION: In an embodiment, at least partially coated nanowires other than magnetic materials are provided. The nanowires have an average length of about 0.1 μm to about 10,000 μm. The nanowares are mixed into a liquid medium, and a magnetic field is applied to position the nanowires. The liquid medium contains precursor materials, such as conductive particles or metal salts or the like, which can be consolidated into a solid matrix. To the matrix are fixed the nanowires in a positioned direction. A portion of the positioned nanowires is exposed, for example, by etching of the surface portion of the matrix material, thereby providing the desired protrusion of the top of the nanowires.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a field emission device utilizing the electron emission characteristics of a nano-conductor. SOLUTION: This field emission device deposits nano-conductors on a board 11 generally in the form of an aggregate 30 of wires or fibers, which do not have definite directions and a high aspect ratio in an entangled form. The aggregate 30 in the entangled form is exposed to an electric field vertically applied to the surface of a film during field emission. A loose nano-conductor end 10 in the structure tends to rise and align itself along a power line, so that the nano-conductor end 10 exposed to the electric field and aligned can be provided. Because of the indefinite and entangled nature of the aggregate 30, its density is adequately low and conforms to a criterion of d/h>0.1. In order to produce an aligned nanotube ends having an equal height, the emission characteristic is optimized by trimming the end parts as desired by the use of a high-temperature blade or spacer or by the use of a laser beam.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nano-structural body assembly that provides continued movement of electrons from a cathode power source to electric field emission tips, and a manufacturing method for such assemblies. SOLUTION: A nano-scale structural body assembly is provided with a substrate 2 and plural nano-structural bodies 1 attached on the substrate 2. The nano-structural body 1, which is 1.0-100 nm in diameter, and 0.5-100 μm long, extends from the surface of the substrate to the tip. A metal coating 5 covering over at least a part of the plural nano-structural body 1 is applied. Accordingly, a conductive path is formed from the substrate 2 to the emission tip 3 of the nano-structural body 1.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process in which electromechanical parts can be proto- typed by using the three-dimensional printing technology. SOLUTION: This method comprises a step in which a first type powder material 62 is deposited in a specified area to form a first layer, a step in which a binder material is added to the specified area of the first type powder to regulate a part of a structure to be formed, and a step in which a part of a non-adhered powder is removed in a final stage by using the technology such as evacuation. The above-described steps are repeated sufficient times in order to form a desired shape of the structure regulated in the area to be held by the binder material.
