Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a tunable fiber grating which has a wider tuning range and does not require continuous electric power. SOLUTION: The tunable fiber grating 10 is fixed to a magnetostrictive main body 14 and magnetic strain is transmitted to a grating 12. An electromagnet is arranged adjacently to the magnetostrictive main body 14 and a magnetic field is applied along the magnetostrictive main body 14. A current applied to the electromagnet is controlled to control a force transmitted to the fiber grating 10, i.e., the interval and reflection frequency of the grating 12. The magnetostrictive main body 14 is a column fixed along the grating 12. Further, magnetostrictive effect is mechanically amplified. Further, an addition/extraction multiplexer which uses the tuable fiber grating 10 is described.
