Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide user mobility management between multiple systems that use protocols different in each other. SOLUTION: The multiple-protocol home location register(MP HLR) 101 comprises a receiver, which receives network requests in accordance with a network protocol from a requesting side network. A processor in the MP HLR 101 processes the network request and acquires information requested by the network request using a common data source and a common control procedure for the network protocol. A transmitter connected the processor relays the requested information to the requesting side network. The MP HLR 101 executes functions such as mobility/user management, user authentication/security control, and user profile management for various network protocols.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an interactive call identification method capable of easily identifying a caller by constituting the method of 1st telephone connection for receiving and storing a telephone call and a message from a calling position and 2nd telephone connection for repeating the message to a called position. SOLUTION: When a callee 200 is called, the call is sent to an exclusive sever 120 and ended in the server 120. Thereby the telephone number of the callee 200 dialed by a caller 100 instructs a network to send a call to the server 120 by another name. The server 120 displays a message instructing the caller 100 to input a message. At the time of temporarily receiving a message, the server 120 holds the call and starts a 2nd call to the callee 200. A voice message is sent through the 2nd call. When the callee 200 receives the call, the server 120 bridges the two calls.

SOLUTION: Plural messages are stored in the user agent of a two-way wireless message communication network. Such a message corresponds to a message selected by the subscriber of a two-way message communication service. This message is encoded and contains control information. A call originating message transfer code is transmitted from the two-way message communication equipment of the subscriber to the two-way message communication network. Thus call originating message transfer code contains a message number and a corrector designating customize to be applied to the message. Next, this call originating message transfer code is expanded in the user agent and this expanded message is transferred to a desired destination on the basis of the contents of the call originating message transfer code.

Abstract: Portable and/or mobile IP hosts desiring to connect to the Internet can dynamically acquire a home address and other configuration information through DHCP when powering up in a foreign network. A two-stage configuration procedure is used. First, the mobile host uses the M-IP protocol to establish contact with an addressing element, referred to as a bootstrapping agent, that is usually co-located with a M-IP Home Agent, and that allocates a temporary home address for the mobile host. The temporary address is used to create a temporary tunnel. Second, this temporary tunnel is used as the communication vehicle over which standard DHCP transactions take place. The present invention is thus arranged to use a) M-IP as the signaling mechanism for reaching the home network and dynamically allocating a temporary home address for the mobile host; and b) DHCP to allocate a permanent home address and any other configuration state for the mobile host.

Abstract: Domains are defined to incorporate a subnet including a plurality of base stations and routers. Base stations are used by mobile devices to attach to the wired portion of a packet-based network, such as the Internet, and exchange packets thereover with a correspondent node. Local mobility between domain base stations is provided by including and updating routing table entries at domain routers and base stations for forwarding packets having a mobile device's address as a destination address to the mobile device. Packets are delivered to the mobile device regardless of the domain base station to which the mobile device is attached. When a mobile device is attached to a base station included within a foreign domain, a care-of address is assigned, and packets are tunneled for delivery of packets to the mobile device. Only one care-of address is required per mobile device per foreign domain. Routing table entries used for packet delivery are updated on a purely local subnet basis within domains, whether home domain or foreign domain, making handoffs between base stations substantially transparent to the home agent and the correspondent node.

Abstract: A "cluster mobile switching center" (cMSC) is arranged to perform the switching and control functions of a conventional mobile switching center (MSC), including, if desired, the additional functions of a conventional visitor location register (VLR). The cMSC is implemented on distributed processors using modular software. Advantageously, a specific instance of middleware, known as Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA), is used as the communications middleware. Functionally, the cMSC is arranged to have two classes of servers: (1) Interworking managers (IMs) that act as gateways and provide interfaces to external network elements, and (2) core servers that perform call processing (registration, location updates, incoming and outgoing call processing) functions and communicate with each other using CORBA. IMs terminate standard protocols with the external elements and use CORBA to communicate with the core servers. Software objects are defined to perform specific tasks, manage particular resources, and interact to provide end-to-end services.

Abstract: A system and method for two-way wireless messaging is disclosed. A plurality of messages are stored within a user agent of the two-way messaging network. The messages correspond to those selected by a subscriber of a two-way messaging service. The messages are encoded and include control information. An originating message transfer code is transmitted from the two-way messaging device of the subscriber to the two-way messaging network. The originating message transfer code includes, among other things a message number and a modifier that specifies customizations that are to be applied to a message. The originating message code is then expanded within the user agent, and the expanded message is forwarded to desired destinations based on the content of the originating message transfer code. In one aspect of the present invention, the message can be encoded with at least one control tag and in another aspect of the invention, the message can be encoded with paired control tags that delimit the beginning and end portions of a message to which control should be applied.
