    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain a radio access method to a packet base network for realizing local movability in a sub-net with the minimum delay and traffic amounts. SOLUTION: Local movability in a sub-net can be realized by maintaining and updating routing table entry in a domain router and a base station for transferring a packet having the address of a mobile device as a destination address to the destination of the mobile device. The packet can be transmitted to the destination of the mobile device regardless of which base station the mobile device is connected with. When the mobile device is positioned in a domain outside a region, a notice address is assigned to the mobile device, and the tunneling of packet to the destination of the mobile device is operated. It is necessary for the mobile device to have one notice address for each outside domain.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide user mobility management between multiple systems that use protocols different in each other. SOLUTION: The multiple-protocol home location register(MP HLR) 101 comprises a receiver, which receives network requests in accordance with a network protocol from a requesting side network. A processor in the MP HLR 101 processes the network request and acquires information requested by the network request using a common data source and a common control procedure for the network protocol. A transmitter connected the processor relays the requested information to the requesting side network. The MP HLR 101 executes functions such as mobility/user management, user authentication/security control, and user profile management for various network protocols.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently use a system band without impairing the quality of a sound signal by converting digital information emitted from a mobile object communication network at a first data rate into a second data rate required in a position where an ATM exchange is connected to a public switched network for the first time. SOLUTION: A mobile terminal 10 calls a cable system telephone set S1 in the public switched network 200. The signal of a base station 20 having the best S/N is selected by a frame selector 120 among the signals of plural base stations receiving digital data of the bit rate of 8 kbps in the mobile terminal 10. A mobile object telephone switching station 100 becomes an initial connection procedure mode. When a line 515 which can directly connected to the public switched network 200 exists, a vocoder 130 converts the bit rate from 8k to 64 kbps from the mobile terminal 10 and transmits it. When a connection opposite party is the ATM exchange 150, a connection procedure is advanced with 8 kbps as it is and the vocoder 153 of the final ATM exchange 150-N executes the conversion of 8 k to 64 kbps.

    Abstract: The inventors provide herein methods for the decomposition of initial Filter Criteria (iFCs) (300) into user-independent, global data and user specific data. In various embodiments of the present invention, the approach is based on Trigger point templates that represent families of trigger points, which are able to be instantiated to real trigger points by adding missing user specific data. Trigger point templates are specified at service deployment time and are instantiated to real trigger points and complemented with the other iFC components to form complete iFCs at the time of service subscription. It is demonstrated that the trigger point methods of the present invention facilitate the storing, provisioning and downloading of initial filter criteria and are beneficial in terms of at least storage and run-time efficiency.

    Abstract: Domains are defined to incorporate a subnet including a plurality of base stations and routers. Base stations are used by mobile devices to attach to the wired portion of a packet-based network, such as the Internet, and exchange packets thereover with a correspondent node. Local mobility between domain base stations is provided by including and updating routing table entries at domain routers and base stations for forwarding packets having a mobile device's address as a destination address to the mobile device. Packets are delivered to the mobile device regardless of the domain base station to which the mobile device is attached. When a mobile device is attached to a base station included within a foreign domain, a care-of address is assigned, and packets are tunneled for delivery of packets to the mobile device. Only one care-of address is required per mobile device per foreign domain. Routing table entries used for packet delivery are updated on a purely local subnet basis within domains, whether home domain or foreign domain, making handoffs between base stations substantially transparent to the home agent and the correspondent node.

    Abstract: A "cluster mobile switching center" (cMSC) is arranged to perform the switching and control functions of a conventional mobile switching center (MSC), including, if desired, the additional functions of a conventional visitor location register (VLR). The cMSC is implemented on distributed processors using modular software. Advantageously, a specific instance of middleware, known as Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA), is used as the communications middleware. Functionally, the cMSC is arranged to have two classes of servers: (1) Interworking managers (IMs) that act as gateways and provide interfaces to external network elements, and (2) core servers that perform call processing (registration, location updates, incoming and outgoing call processing) functions and communicate with each other using CORBA. IMs terminate standard protocols with the external elements and use CORBA to communicate with the core servers. Software objects are defined to perform specific tasks, manage particular resources, and interact to provide end-to-end services.

    Abstract: Local mobility within a subnet is supported by classifying wireless base stations, and the routers. used to forward packets to those base stations, within defined domains. Domains are defined to incorporate a subnet having a plurality of base stations. Base stations are used by mobile devices to attach to the wired portion of a packet-based network, such as the Internet, and exchange packets thereover with a correspondent node. Packets sent from the correspondent node to the mobile device have a packet destination address corresponding to the mobile device. The mobile device retains this address for the duration of time it is powered up and attached to the Internet via any base station within a given domain. Host-based routing is utilized to update routing table entries corresponding to the mobile device at routers incorporated within a single domain. The routing table entries are established and updated via path setup schemes to convey packets destined for the mobile device along the proper established path through the domain routers and base stations, regardless of the domain base station through which the mobile device is attached. Path setup schemes utilize power up, refresh, and handoff path setup messages to maintain the proper relationship between router interfaces and packet addresses for routing table entries.
