Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently increase a system capacity by identifying a high-rate user and reducing the influence of interference only for the high-rate user. SOLUTION: A receiver 400 efficiently gets back a capacity occupied by n-number of high power users by combining an antenna array algorithm 430 and a multi-user detecting algorithm 420. Signals from k-number of users in all are received by antennas 410 to 411. Among the k-number of users, n-number of (k>n) users are the high-rate users and the other (k-n) users are low-rate users. An antenna array algorithm 430, a multi-user detecting algorithm 420 or both of them are applied to only the high-rate users. Namely, concerning the algorithm 430, only ones corresponding to the high-rate user among θ1 to θn are made null and concerning a multi user detecting algorithm 420, only ones corresponding to the high-rate user among signature sequences s1 to sn are utilized.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a device for a CDMA network which transmits and receives at a variety of data rates by connecting a 1st spread signal at a 1st rate and a 2nd spread signal at a 2nd rate. SOLUTION: A transmitter 600 clocks data again by performing time multiplexing of an orthogonal Walsh code (spread spectrum code) that corresponds to a slow rate and a fast rate and accomplishes rate conversion. Also, it has a rate converter 620 which buffers data received from a fast rate source 610 and a clock 630 which clocks again. The converter 620 is synchronized with what is selected by a switch 640 with orthogonal Walsh codes (corresponding to low and fast rates) wkL and wkU. An output of the converter 620 shows two pieces of different bit periods, and the codes wkL and wkU are used to multiply data by a multiplier 650.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a joint minimum average square error (MMSE) equalizer used for reducing a bit error rate floor that is generated by the dispersion of time in an MIMO system for all combinations of each transmission antenna/ reception antenna that are enabled in the MIMO system. SOLUTION: Resultant joint equalization corrects not only the influence of a channel where a transmission antenna and a reception antenna are combined but also the interference of other transmission antennas to any given reception antennas. The joint equalization shows improved performance as compared with simple reproduction of the minimum average square error (MMSE) equalizer in the conventional technique to the combination of each transmission antenna/reception antenna.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve detector performance and also increase a system capacity by using an adaptive detector by means of considering unknown interference. SOLUTION: A linear coupler is used and multi-access interference is considered in a multi-user space time rake receiver. A real part operator is used before the linear coupler in the first version of the detector. In this case, a linear coupler processor 20 comprises the bank of the real part operator and the linear coupler after it and respective components 1411-14K are slicers for judging an estimation symbol being most close to the input. An unknown interference source is considered in this way so that detector performance is improved and also the system capacity is increased. For example, interference from an buried micro-cell can be considered in a base station receiver. In the meantime, interference from a signal which is not demodulated can be considered in a hand-set receiver.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To transmit variable length coded data in low S/N ratio environment by using a second data pattern instead of a first data pattern in the case of judging that coded data includes the first data pattern. SOLUTION: A controller 208 inserts a power control bit to coded data output from an interleaver 206 and controls a multiplexer 210 by multiplexing a previously fixed data pattern so as to multiplex the beginning part and the finishing part of coded data. In order to judge whether data pattern 'Z' exists in the coded data, a converter 220 exchanges the pattern with a second pattern. In order to add a previously fixed data pattern 'X' and a synchronizing pattern 'S' to the beginning part of coded data output from the converter 220, a multiplexer 230 is controlled to add the previously fixed data pattern 'Z' to its end part.

Abstract: A system, a transceiver, and methods for code division multiple access (CDMA) communication. The system includes first and second code division multiple access transceivers. The first code division multiple access transceiver has a plurality antennas disposed to provide transmission via a plurality of paths and the second code division multiple access transceiver has a rake arrangement for processing a plurality of signals received at the rake arrangement with differing delays or other characteristics. A driving arrangement is provided for causing the first code division multiple access transceiver to use a relative few, e.g., one, of the plurality of antennas. When, however, an indication is obtained that an adequate number of resolvable signals are likely not received at the rake arrangement of the second transceiver, a circuit switches the driving arrangement to cause the first transceiver to use more of the plurality of antennas. In one implementation, the second transceiver sends a feedback signal indicating the number of useful signals being received and the first transceiver responds to the feedback signal by selecting and using a desirable number of transmit antennas. In an implementation suitable for a time-division duplexing (TDD) communication system, the first transceiver obtains the indication by inference from the fact that it is not receiving an adequate plurality of resolvable signals from the second transceiver. When the first transceiver obtains the indication, it drives the increased number of antennas either with respective delays or with different codes of the CDMA type.

Abstract: In order to transmit variable length encoded data in low signal to noise ratio environments, a first data pattern is added to a beginning portion of encoded data to signify a beginning of the encoded data. Further, a second data pattern is added to end portion of the encoded data to signify and end of the encoded data. Additionally, since the encoded data may naturally include the second data pattern and thereby mistakenly indicate an end of the encoded data, the encoded data is first checked for such a pattern. If the pattern is found within the encoded data, a new pattern is substituted therefore. In order to counter errors, patterns similar to the first data pattern are also substituted with new patterns. As such, a variable length encoded data can be transmitted in a low signal to noise ratio environment, and can thereafter be easily decoded.
