Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a structure of an assembly by which detection of light from an optical device mounted on a substrate is improved, a method for forming the assembly and a transmitting system and an optical network in which the assembly is incorporated. SOLUTION: The optical assembly (20) includes a substrate (21), a light- emitting device (22) mounted on a major surface of the substrate (21) and having a rear face (24), at least one channel (28) formed near the rear face (24) of the light-emitting device (22) in the substrate (21) and at least one light detector (13) optically connected to the light emitted from the rear face (24). The channel (28) includes at least one surface (32) and the surface (32) receives a part of the light from the rear face (24) and reflects the light so that the light may not be incident into the optical detector (13) and the optical detector (13) may primarily receives the direct light from the rear face (24) in this way.

Abstract: The invention, in accordance with one aspect, is an optical assembly (20) including a substrate (21 ), a light emitting device (22) mounted over a major surface o f the substrate and having a back face (24), at least one channel (28) formed in the substrate near the back face of the light emitting device, and at least one photodetector (13) optically coupled to the light emitted from the back face. The channel includes at least one surface (32) adapted t o receive a portion of the back face light and reflect it away from the photodetector so that the photodetector receives primarily direct light from the back face (FIG. 2).
