Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for reducing a peak to mean power ratio of a communication system, capable of decreasing the peak to mean power ratio in a wireless communication system, using a wireless protocol using pilot symbols. SOLUTION: The method for reducing peak to mean power ratio of the communication system comprises a step of providing a plurality of code channels, and a step of respectively assigning phase rotation to the plurality of channels. The plurality of channels are placed individually by using the phase rotations. The phase rotations may be multiples of ±π/2 or ±π.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for adjusting the down-tilt angle of a radio communication system antenna. SOLUTION: Plural cells 1, 2, etc., include cell sites CS1, CS2, etc., respectively. A mobile switching center(MSC) 200 communicates with cell sites CS1, CS2, etc., and local switching networks. Each of cell sites CS1, CS2, etc., includes at least one electrically controllable antenna module, a support unit, a base station BS, and at least one down-tilt controller DC. The controllable antenna module is attached on the support unit. The base station BS communicates with MSC 200 by a high-frequency (RF) signal to/from the antenna module. The down-tilt controller DC communicates with the base station and the MSC 200 (more precisely MDCU 202) for controlling the down-tilt angle of the antenna module.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively utilize the capacity of power in the amplifier of a transmission diversity type wireless communication system. SOLUTION: In a signal amplification method that amplifies a diversity- encoded signal for expressing the information of a first signal transmitted by diversity as first and second diversity-encoded signals, and at the same time, amplifies a second signal that is transmitted without using transmission diversities, amplifiers 670 and 675 are used shared in the signal amplification method for sharing the amplification of the first and second diversity-encoded signals and that of the second signal. In the first power amplifier 670, the first diversity- encoded signal is used for forming a first composite signal. In the second power amplifier 675, the second diversity coding signal is used for forming a second composited signal. In the first and second power amplifiers 670 and 675, the first and second composited signals are amplified, respectively.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method to characterize, adjust and/or optimize the entire performance of a wireless communication network. SOLUTION: An optimum process on a differential coefficient basis is applied to the wireless communication network to optimize an object function consisting of a network performance index with respect to a network tuning parameter variable. The optimization is based on 1st or high-order differential coefficient relating to a network parameter variable selected from the object function. The object function includes one or more of e.g. maximization of the network coverage and of the network capacity and minimization of network resources. An additional network parameter not acting like a variable in the optimization process acts like a limiting condition in the optimum process. This invention can substantially enhance design, adjustment and the optimum process of the wireless network.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method to characterize, adjust and/or optimize the entire performance of a wireless communication network. SOLUTION: This invention provides a method to characterize the entire network performance by using a two-dimensional capacity/coverage diagram. The diagram consists of plotting of vectors denoting the entire network performance, each having a network capacity component and a network coverage component so as to cope with various network configurations. This diagram permits comparison of various network configurations visually, very clearly and efficiently from the standpoint of the entire network performance. Moreover, the diagram allows users to visually understand the trade-off between the attributes of two competitive network performances, e.g. the network capacity and the network coverage.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance an estimate (evaluation).interpolation technology of a network parameter used for modeling a wireless network. SOLUTION: Values of one link parameter or more of the wireless network are estimated (evaluated) on a test point introduced at least partially from road position data (e.g. road map) characterizing an area served by the wireless network. This estimate (evaluation) can be executed by using a link model. In order embodiment, the values of one link parameter or more of the wireless network are interpolated along a plurality of edges (sides) between data points defining a mesh. The edges correspond to roads. Then by using the interpolated value, the measure of the network performance is generated. A set of the edge weights denoting traffic in the wireless network is related to the edges of the mesh.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an efficient power amplifier architecture for linearly amplifying a signal having the possibility of high peak power. SOLUTION: An amplified signal is generated by decomposing a signal 16 into two parts 18 and 22, amplifying these parts and coupling the amplified parts. The decomposition is performed so as to have characteristics capable of facilitating the efficient amplification in the part to be obtained. For example, the signal to be amplified is decomposed while using at least one threshold 20. The part 18 of the signal to be amplified is formed from the part of a signal within the threshold. Since the part 18 forms a signal having low PAR, the part 18 of the signal can be efficiently amplified rather than the original signal. The part 22 of the signal is formed from the part of the original signal, which exceeds the threshold. Since the part 22 is almost zero, the part 22 can be efficiently amplified by a C-class amplifier, which does not consume energy when an input signal is zero.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and method for effectively reducing the peak of a signal which should be amplified in a communication system. SOLUTION: A signal notching system reduces a signal peak by notching the peak of a signal exceeding a threshold to generate a notched signal. Then, the notched signal is filtered in order to generate the signal of a result having a reduced amplitude. In constitution where a signal is expressed by a signal sample, e.g. a peak notching system first traces a peak sample exceeding the threshold such as a sample expressing the positive peak sample of the peak exceeding the threshold. When the peak sample is traced, the peak notching system adjusts the peak sample by a quantity being the function of the exceeding quantity of the threshold by the peak sample to effectively generate a notched signal having one sample notch at the peak. A peak notching system filters the notched signal to fill the notch to generate a signal having a reduced peak.

Abstract: Improved techniques for optimizing performance of a wireless network. In an illustrative embodiment, a derivative-based optimization process is applied to optimize an objective function of a network performance metric with respect to a number of network tuning parameter variables. The optimization may be based on first or higher order derivatives of the objective function with respect to the selected network parameter variables. The objective function may include, e.g., one or more of a maximization of network coverage, a maximization of network capacity, and a minimization of network resources. Additional network parameters which are not variables in optimization process serve as constraints to the optimization process. Advantageously, the invention substantially improves the process of designing, adjusting and optimizing the performance of wireless networks.

Abstract: A signal amplification system involves decomposing a signal into two or more parts, amplifying the parts and then combining the amplified parts to produce the amplified signal. The decomposition can be done such that the resulting parts have characteristics that are amenable to efficient amplification. For example, decomposition of the signal to be amplified can be done using at least one threshold. The first part of the signal to be amplified can be formed by the portion of the signal within the threshold. As such, because the first part forms a signal with a lower PAR, the first part of the signal can be amplified more efficiently than the original signal. The second part of the signal can be formed by the portion of the original signal beyond the threshold. Because the second part is mostly zero, the second part can also be amplified efficiently, for example with a class C type amplifier which does not dissipate any energy when the input signal is zero.
