    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an antenna system with high reliability that can enhance the performance of both up-link and down-link signals in a wireless communication system. SOLUTION: The antenna array system 10 has a 1st array 12 and a 2nd array 14 apart from the 1st array 12. The 1st array 12 is a transmission array for down-link transmission and the combination between the 1st array 12 and the 2nd array 14 forms a diversity configuration for up-link reception. The antenna system 10 has a proper number of antenna elements 31, 32 that are properly spatially arranged to maintain sufficient non-correlation in received signals (received by the 1st array 12 and the 2nd array 14) for coping with high-speed fading while avoiding the lobe definition problem. A signal to interference wave ratio (S/I) in the up-link and the down-link can all be enhanced by employing an adaptive radiation method in both the transmission and reception modes.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the number of necessary individual antenna packages in half and to achieve separation at an appropriate level between corresponding quadrature feeding ports by using a pair of cross polarization antennas instead of an individual vertically polarized wave antenna. SOLUTION: An antenna structure 10a uses a pair of double orthogonal antenna structural elements which are orthogonally crossed with each other and minimize signal interference during signal transmission. Two antenna structural elements excellently excite a cross polarization electric field component and arranges it in a relation of almost +45 deg./-45 deg.. An antenna element indicated by elements 16 and 18 is excellently packaged in one unit with the same phase as a center and this cross polarization antenna achieves separation at an appropriate level between corresponding quadrature feeding ports needed by a transmission system. Then, since independent carrier wave wave motion is transmitted from the antenna structure occupying a minimal space, it becomes easier to use half the number of the antennas.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a more effective structure of a power amplifier. SOLUTION: In a power amplifier system, a signal is adaptively distributed by the structure of an amplifier comprising amplifiers disposed in parallel. For example, the power amplifier system adjusts the operation of each amplifier within the structure of the amplifier, and for example, a power process function of the amplifier is decreased based on the information of a signal to be amplified by the structure of the amplifier, for example, a power level. By utilizing this adjusted operation of the amplifier, the power amplifier system uses a variable power divider for redistributing the input signal power to a plurality of amplifiers; and at least one variable coupler for combining an amplified signal from the amplifier in conformity to conditions when changing a division rate. Thus, the power amplifier system can be reconstituted corresponding to the change in order to improve the performance and/or efficiency.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a feed for a phased array antenna having a low system loss, a wide operating bandwidth and low complexity. SOLUTION: In a modular feed (10) for the phased array antenna, the system efficiency and operating bandwidth of the modular feed are improved by combining the merits of a series type feed and a corporate type feed. Feed modules (40 and 50) having the power branch of one stage are used for feeding power to array modules (100, 200, 300 and 400) having a general series type feed configuration. The array modules are mutually exchangeable and the feed modules are mutually exchangeable so that production costs and the complexity of system can be reduced.

    Abstract: A modularly-partitioned feedforward multicarrier linear RF power amplifier is de scribed. The circuitry and components of the power amplifier are segregated into physical ly-separate modules in accordance with several criteria. In one embodiment, the power amplif ier is segregated into a RF power module, a linearizer module and a DC power supply mod ule. The RF power module includes power- and frequency- dependent components and generally v aries with the carrier frequency and output power requirements for a specific application. The linearizer module includes circuitry and components that are substantially power- and frequ ency-independent. As such, the linearizer module is substantially invariant and a single design ma y be used for virtually any application. The DC power supply module includes circuit and components that are substantially frequency independent but somewhat power power dependent. The DC power supply module may vary from amplifier to amplifier where there is a significant change in output power requirements.

    Abstract: A power amplifier system (40) uses adaptive distribution of signals through an amplifier architecture of parallel amplifier stages (26 a-d). For example, the power amplifier system can adjust the operation of individual amplifier stages in the amplifier arrangement, for example to reduce power handling capability of the amplifier stages based on information of the signal to be amplified by the amplifier arrangement, such as the power level. To take advantage of the adjusted operation of the amplifier stages, the power amplifier system uses a variable power divider (48) to reapportion the input signal power among the amplifier stages and at least one variable combiner (50) to adaptively combine amplified signals from the amplifier stages in changing proportions. As such, the power amplifier system is reconfigurable and/or can adapt to changing conditions to provide improved performance and/or efficiency.

    Abstract: A feedforward amplifier (40A) and an amplification method using the feedforward amplifier include an equalizer (48) positioned in series with a main amplifier (50) and/or a correction amplifier of the feedforward amplifier to compensate for a non-flat frequency response of the main amplifier and/or correction amplifier. The equalizer can be a voltage controllable equalizer adjustable under electronic controls to accommodate changing circuit conditions, or an equalizer with fixed parameters. These equalizers are selectively used according to the need and desired performance. The feedforward amplifier and the method separately perform the equalization function and the linearizing function of the feedforward amplifier to provide a cost effective and efficient feedforward amplifier and amplification method.
