    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the deterioration of the maximum data rate of an XDSL signal and/or the sound quality of a POTS signal by deciding the communication state of the call of a communication system and allocating overhead voltage in accordance with the state for transmitting the POTS signal and the XDSL signal. SOLUTION: A processor 135 judges a POTS state, an XDSL state and the loop state of a communication system 100, judges the voltage request of a line driver 125, controls a resistance value or other means and changes an overhead voltage level by a detection circuit and the processor function of a telephone switch 105. Overhead voltage is voltage quantity required for driving an AC signal through a communication system 100 without saturating the amplification circuit of a line driver 125. An overhead voltage signal has amplitude selected for driving a POTS signal from a POTS interface 115, an XDSL signal from an XDSL interface 120 or the combination of both signals.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and method for metallic-testing a subscriber line that provides both voice and digital subscriber line services. SOLUTION: The voice service is provided by a voice switch and the DSL service is provided by a digital subscriber line access multiplexer (DSLAM). Each of them includes a metallic line test unit. The voice line in the voice switch has a connection to a first metallic line test bus connected to the voice switch metallic line test unit via a first relay set. The DSL line in the DSLAM card has a connection to a second metallic line test bus, which is also connected between the DSLAM metallic line test unit and the subscriber line. A second set of relays control the connection of the metallic line test bus to the subscriber line. A signal is sent from either metallic test unit to cause the relays to change to provide a clear path for metallic testing.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To judge whether a specified subscriber line is adaptive to a high speed data service by receiving a response signal from the subscriber line in accordance with transmission of a testing signal, analyzing the signal and judging the high speed service capability of the subscriber line. SOLUTION: A test sound device 220 generates a designated sound or signal during a testing operation and the designated sound or signal is transmitted to the subscriber line 251 via a link 215. The whole testing signals are transmitted to a user of customer private equipment 250 by an amplitude level being lower than that of a dial sound or another call processing signal so as not to be a burst. The dial sound and each testing signal are reflected by the subscriber line and returned to the test sound device 220 via the bi-directional link 215. When the reflected signal is received by the device 220, it is analyzed and compared with experiment data or simulation data stored in a database 226. The device 220 judges the high speed service correspondence to be kept by the subscriber line 251 by the minute analysis or comparison of the signal.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a space and wiring of a terminator of a central station for the high speed data service by providing a channel support circuit that separates two-way communication of a subscriber loop into input and output communication of separate channels to a termination interface of the central station so as to eliminate the need for a duplex filter. SOLUTION: A channel support circuit 62 of an access interface unit 50 separates a communication signal of a subscriber channel 42 into a transmission signal and a reception signal so as to act like a simplex-duplex communication interface. The reception signal is divided by a signal diver 68, the divided signals are fed to a high speed data XDSL receiver 78 and a CODEC 80 through high and low pass filters 74, 76 respectively and converted into an asynchronous mode ATM signal and a PCM digital signal, which are sent to a central station. On the other hand, information from the central station are converted into an analog signal by a CODEC 82 and an XDSL transmitter 84, they are combined in a coupler 86 and sent to a subscriber line from a line port circuit 62 via a main distribution frame MDF 52.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for increasing the allowable transmission rate of Digital Subscriber Lines (DSL(s)) (21,22) in a binder group (25). The DSL(s) in the binder group are monitored to determine their actual transmission rate. The allowable transmission rate of individual DSL(s) is adjusted in order to make sure that it does not exceed some target level, but that in case many lines are inactive or in a keep-alive mode, that the transmission rate of the active lines can be substantially higher than the transmission rate based on all lines being active and transmitting at their maximum rate. Avantageously, the actual throughput for the binder group can be increased substantially above that allowed for a static assignment of transmission rates.
