Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To rapidly and effectively access the data page and to read out in a holographic system. SOLUTION: The method uses the page indicator (mark) which is stored in a memory medium together with the data page. The page indicator is stored so that the picture quality of the page indicator to be projected represents the picture quality of the corresponding projected data page on the detector 80 during its reproduction. The picture quality of the projected page indicator is monitored in its reproduction. Based on the picture quality monitored, the system parameter is further varied or the the data from the corresponding page indicator projected on the detector is read out without varying the parameter. Based on detection of the sufficient picture quality of the projected page indicator, the page identifying information such as the page number projected together with the page data can be detected.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce probability of a high peak for which an average power ratio as is not allowable by generating at least two different signal groups, calculating the Fourier transform of each of the signal groups and selecting one of these signal groups for transmission, based on the calculating result of the Fourier transform. SOLUTION: Indexes 1, 2,..., n are divided 70 into sets A and B, which are mutually prime and differential encoding is executed so that differences Si to Sj transmitting information are related by a pair of indexes as either of (i) or (j) belongs to the set A or the set B. Furthermore, with respect to given initial signal groups S1 to Sn , a transmitter rotates 90 a signal element as an index belongs to one (B) of the two sets which are mutually prime for generating the other one of the signal group. Two signal groups 100 and 110 respectively transmit the same information to a receiver. Consequently, a transmitter can execute selection so as to minimize the peak with respect to average power ratio requesting condition.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform design so as to minimize correlation between a pair error probability increasing type signal matrices by setting matrices so that product matrices have relatively low correlation with each other and using an appropriate subset of these product matrices as a signal constellation. SOLUTION: Random selection for a (u) vector is generated (30). Further, L constellations of signal matrices are generated from a generator matrix represented by each (u) vector (40). Further, a complete set of (L-1) correlation matrices is formed for the respective constellations (50). Error probability standards are calculated for each of the respective correlation matrices (55). The largest one is identified among all of the error probability standards (60). An optimum constellation is selected after calculating the maximum error probability standard for each constellation (65). The selected constellation is one whose maximum error probability standard is the smallest.

SOLUTION: The threshold value is set by a threshold circuit 18. When the comparator 24 judges the initial roughly estimated value of each pixel element is smaller than the fixed threshold value, it is regarded each pixel element expresses a 2nd data state, and the comparator 24 outputs a signal showing the 2nd data state.

Abstract: A method and system for watermarking and recovering a watermarked digitized image for subsequent authentication. The digitized image comprises spatial domain data signals reproduced from an original image. A transformer transforms the spatial domain data signals into frequency domain data signals, including respective magnitude and phase data signal components. Information is embedded into the magnitude data signals to develop modified data signals and the modified data signals are converted from the frequency domain to the spatial domain to generate the watermarked digitized image. For recovery, a second transformer transforms the spatial domain data signals comprising the respective original digitized image and watermarked digitized image into respective frequency domain dataset signals. A comparator responsive to the two transformer outputs compares the respective frequency domain dataset signals to identify the watermark and verify the authenticity of the image reproduction.

Abstract: Messages according to a method of wireless signal transmission are sent as sequences of unitary space-time signals. Each signal is representable as a matrix in which each column represents a respective transmitting antenna of a transmitting array, and each row represents a time segment. Each such matrix is proportional to a complex-valued matrix, all columns of which are mutually orthonormal. A new method for creating a constellation of signal matrices comprises providing an initial signal in the form of a complex, orthonormal matrix. The method further comprises generating a further plurality of matrices by a process that assures that each of the generated matrices is related to the initial matrix as a product of one or more multiplications of the initial matrix by one or more unitary matrices.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention include a method (10) and apparatus (20) for modulating data retrieved from page-wise memory systems such as holographic memory systems. The inventive method uses the detection (15) of one or more test signals included within stored data image pages to estimate (16) the behavior of the retrieved data image pages and to normalize the retrieved information accordingly. The method includes allocating a portion of the data image pages of interest for one or more determinable test signals and incorporating the test signal information into the data image pages prior to storage of the data image pages within the storage medium. Upon retrieval of the data image pages from the storage medium, the test signals are detected and used to form the basis of estimated data member behavior across individual data image pages and, alternatively, from one data image page to another. Based on the estimated behavior, appropriate normalization is performed on the data image pages. Advantageously, embodiments of the invention provide enhanced compensation for reproduction inconsistencies existing throughout the data image pages, e.g., inconsistencies inherently caused by holographic storage systems. Alternatively, the behavior estimation is supplemented with generation profiles indicating the behavior of data within the data image pages. The generated profile is used, e.g., to assist in normalizing the data image pages. Also, interpolation techniques alternatively assist the behavior estimation and/or the normalization of the data image pages.
