    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wireless global positioning system that can decide a position of a wireless mobile communication device without GPS capability without disturbing reception of a satellite signal. SOLUTION: The wireless positioning system determines the location of a wireless mobile communication device from reliable position measurements and wireless network downlink measurements. The wireless network downlink measurements obtained are then used in conjunction with a database for pattern matching or contour matching. The difficulty of building and maintaining that database is alleviated by using those network downlink measurements associated with the reliable position measurements to populate the database, such as GPS measurements or those obtained through enhanced based positioning technique (EOTD). The increased database accuracy subsequently improves the quality of position location measurements from the wireless network.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an auxiliary system which mostly prevents costs and limitation in a conventional system, which decides the position of a wireless terminal, which is low-cost as compared with a conventional wireless terminal, which can receive a weak signal as compared with the conventional wireless terminal, and which realizes the wireless terminal capable of deciding the position quickly as compared with the conventional wireless terminal. SOLUTION: A task of signal acquisition and signal processing which are required by a conventional wireless terminal is divided into a wireless terminal 501 and an auxiliary system 505. Especially, a condition which is required normally from the conventional wireless terminal is shifted to the auxiliary system 505. The auxiliary system 505 provides information useful for the wireless terminal 501 through a wireless communication link 504. The auxiliary system 505 acquires information regarding the astronomical ephemeris of, a satellite, it processes the information partially, and it transmits the information to the wireless terminal 501 in a form which is useful for the wireless terminal 501.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a wireless communication system that uses position information to transfer specific information to a person carrying a mobile unit. SOLUTION: The wireless communication system has a controller 301 that receives information denoting the position of a wireless communication device (mobile unit) and a memory that stores information identifying the mobile unit and instruction information corresponding to the information. Upon the receipt of information denoting meeting the position requirement of the mobile unit geographically relating to a remote position (e.g. the position of the mobile unit is within a distance designated from the remote position), the controller 301 outputs information to the mobile unit on the basis of the stored instruction information. The controller 301 compares the position information of the mobile unit with the stored position information of the remote position so as to discriminate when the mobile unit meets the geographical relation.

    Abstract: The invention is directed towards a method for estimating a PRN synchronization and Doppler shift of a satellite signal at a reference location within a cell and sector of where a wireless terminal or WAG client is located. The estimates are based on information conveyed by a GPS signal acquired by an auxiliary system or WAG server, which may be at a location different from the wireless terminal or WAG client. The PRN synchronization and Doppler shift estimates are also based on some reference time, which is a time that is sufficiently far into the future to allow the WAG client to demodulate and decode the PRN synchronization and Doppler shift estimates from an assisting message transmitted by the WAG server and to use such estimates to acquire GPS signals, wherein the assisting message indicates the PRN synchronization and Doppler shift estimates.
